It's dead week at my school, and I've started to come down with a fever which concerns me as a girl on my hall spent all of thanksgiving break in her room or vomiting in the hall bathroom. If I do have what she had, I worry that I'll be better by the time finals roll around but will have missed on the critical study time. Has anyone experienced something like this? Any suggestions?

Honestly, I’d just be glad that you’re sick during dead week rather than during finals. And you can still study if you’re sick… just make sure it’s at a time when you’re not going to throw up on your textbook.

Keep a receptacle nearby in case the vomiting strikes. Studying can be miserable if you are sick, but it is doable, and it can actually be a distraction from your illness. Whether you have what your hall-mate has or not, be sure to stay hydrated and get vitamin C in your diet. Other than that, not much else you can do.

Hugs, whenhen…

Get to the health center as soon as you can, they may be able to give you a prescription or two to help you be more comfortable until the bug works its way out of your system.

Most important thing is to stay hydrated…water, soup, tea, popsicles, chicken soup, ginger ale…

I’ve also found that some fresh air helps with the nausea. Maybe a quick walk around your building for study breaks, and maybe crack a window open near where you are studying.

Feel better soon!
