I come from California =) and I did my research at a local UC.

how do you get qualified for this?

procrastinators :P.
@hypsmc I used CD-ROM

In the Siemens guideline it says: During the initial judging, only the research reports are evaluated. But why do they still want the abstract, reference, supplemental form and mentor form? When will these forms come into play?

^boom
People told me that you can’t put files on CD-ROM, which are like the CDs with music you get from the store.

Anyone know what font and size should the abstract be in? Also do you put the word “abstract” somewhere on the paper?

^ regarding CD-ROM, really, I wonder who are those people?
The project instruction says:“the abstract, research report, and refs. must also be saved to a CD-ROM and mailed along with your paper copies.”

Here is the link:http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/massachusetts-institute-technology/1003548-im-confused-cd-r-cd-rom.html
Do we have to staple each set of abstract, research report, reference, supplemental form before you mail three sets of those to Siemens? I’m a little confused.

does anyone know if the word limit on the abstract (100-200) is rigid?
mine is about 220 right now. should i cut it down some more?
thanks!

Since I’m doing a math project, can I put my research paper and references under the same pdf. file on the CD?

When they list semifinalists and regional finalists, just the leader’s name gets listed for team projects right?

^^what does your project being a math project have to do with anything? Besides, the references paper is a part of the report, but its pages are not counted toward the 18 page count.

I’m having a hard time to burn files into the CD… Every time I put my CD it formatted automatically and I have to re-burn everything, and when I inserted it back again nothing was on the CD. I’m so frustrated.

Does anyone know how many individual and team projects were submitted, respectively?

“Besides, the references paper is a part of the report, but its pages are not counted toward the 18 page count.”
Actually, it’s not, at least that what the instruction suggests.

The Research Report must:

Be written in English.
Adhere to an 18-page limit. This limit includes the introduction, text, tables, data, illustrations, and appendices. References are not included in the 18-page limit.
Be submitted on 8-1/2 X 11 inch single-sided sheets of paper, double-spaced, with page numbers at the bottom.
Have page margins of at least 1 inch.
Use 12 point or larger Arial or Times New Roman font for the body of the report. Captions accompanying pictures and graphs, as well as citations for references, may be single-spaced and in a smaller point size.
Contain reference pages in the same size font as the body of the research paper (12 point or larger). Each individual reference should be single-spaced with a double space between references.
Ensure that citations and references are complete and in correct standard format for the discipline. Examples from the Mayfield Handbook of Technical & Scientific Writing are available on the Siemens Foundation website.

It says that its not part of the page count but never that its not a part of the report.

I put the research report and the references as two seperate files on the CD. Stupid me.

^I wouldn’t worry about it =)

Did any of you get your professor to read it over for you?

Quick question guys: is the use 1st person in the research paper acceptable?

Nah, I wish he could though. Does anyone know which is more competitive, individual projects or team projects?
