I'm a college student (now sophomore) at the University of Southern California, and I got a letter from Sigma Alpha Lambda today in the mail. It claims to be a non-profit honors society. Usually, I just throw these things out, but the think that made me slightly more interested is the fact that this is actually registered as a student organization at USC. I was wondering if there is any benefit to paying the $58.00 fee to join the organization, or if anyone has even heard of it. Thanks!

I was/am a member of Alpha Lambda Delta & Phi Eta Sigma, freshman national honor societies. Haven't heard about Sigma Alpha Lambda, but would definitely ask for more info--both USC & SAL should be able to provide a bit more info. $58 is not much to join a national honor society -- seems a pretty nominal fee.

Looks fairly innocent to me. I found it odd that it says that they get your name and address from the school based on your GPA but that you can self-nominate. There is also no statement of what is required scholastically that I saw on the site. http://www.sigmaalphalambda.org/
