Signed copy of 2009 Parent Federal Income Tax Return?

Many colleges ask for this. How am I supposed to submit it. The deadline appears to be early Feburary, and yet there is no IDOC available on css profile yet. This is supposed to be for the 2010 one right?

What do I do? Mail it in?

The mail. This is the old way of submitting your financial aid paperwork to your schools financial aid office (the address to your school will be on each of their websites, usually on the main page at the bottom). Students have been doing it for years. If you are not within driving distance of your school to hand deliver it, you put it in the mail with a stamp.

I wouldn’t be so sure. Check with the college that they don’t require it as an IDOC first. IDOC says it will be accepting forms starting at the beginning of February. 2 of DS’s schools require that tax forms be submitted that way.

Check your college websites. Some of our kids’ schools DID require the previous year tax form…in other words, for this year, they would want 2009 signed NOW and then 2010 a bit later. Yes…we submitted TWO years worth of tax returns to several places.

mathmomvt…IDOC is used by SOME schools that require the Profile. I don’t know of any FAFSA only schools that use IDOC. BUT there are a ton of FAFSA only schools that require submission of tax returns.

EVERYONE…check your college websites for what EACH college requires. This varies wildly. Some will want one year of tax returns (2010), some will want two (2009 and 2010). Some won’t request these at all. And check the deadlines.

My D applied to several colleges using IDOC and I, too, was concerned that the deadlines are coming up for fin aid, yet there has been no notification regarding how to use the IDOC system. I called one college (Smith) and they told me specifically NOT to mail or fax them the documents (that’s why they use IDOC–so they won’t be inundated with paper). They said College Board (that administers IDOC) will be sending out emails during the first week of Feb.
