Significance of AP awards?

Do ap awards matter on an application like National Merit awards do?

Not at all. You don't have to do anything beyond the AP Scores to get the AP awards, so getting them is completely useless because you have the scores anyway. Furthermore, most colleges don't even weight AP scores highly, if at all, in the admissions process. Also, you probably won't get a good AP award until after your senior year, when you're already accepted and enrolled at whatever college you're attending.

Yeah, AP awards really don't matter. I didn't know they existed until after I graduated.

Depends really. If you get National AP Scholar by the end of your Junior year, it matters because only ~900 juniors get the award (out of everyone who participates in AP testing).

how about state ap scholar? does that one matter?

State is easily the most important of the exams, but it would be very difficult to earn that award before applying to college.
