I had a 3.8~3.9 GPA throughout freshman and sophomore year, and a 4.12 GPA for junior year first semester. But currently… I have a 3.09 GPA for junior second semester (might even go down to a 2.5)
I was aiming to apply for Cornell for ED, but my chances are destroyed due to my second semester GPA. I don’t have a dramatic back story behind the GPA drop… it was just because classes suddenly became harder and taking three APs were too much for me to handle. I wasn’t able to time manage well.
I really don’t know what to do now… I’m genuinely suicidal these days and I even took sleeping pills the other night (which obviously didn’t work). I was aiming for Ivy League schools all my high school life…
What are some good college options for someone with a GPA like me? I really just gave up on the top schools… I just want to get into college and major in film in the states.
If you’re actually suicidal, you need more support than we can provide as random internet strangers. Go to a professional.
First: Go talk to a doctor or therapist to get help sorting through your feelings. Make an appointment today. You’re depressed and that caused your grades to drop.
Second: Buy a Fiske guide and find 12 colleges you had never heard of that sound perfect for you. There are lots of colleges that share characteristics with Cornell. Identify what you liked about Cornell and find colleges that share those.
Third: what’s your schedule this year? What do you have planned for next year?
Fourth: talk about costs with your parents. Run the NPC on all the colleges you’re considering.
Fifth: your GPA 9-11 is fine. Don’t apply ED and if your first quarter is ok you should apply to lots of top 50 universities and LACs. Do apply EA or rolling admissions to several universities and include your flagship’s honors program program, perhaps another university’s.

Realize there are 3000 colleges in the USA. Cornell might not be the college for you, but there are many many others taht are.
Don’t try to fit yourself to a college…find a college that fits you.
