silly question (orientation)

Do you have to schedule advising appointments or is it a first come first serve basis

They schedule them for you. When you check in, you have a name tag waiting for you and it has on it the location and time of your advising appointment. I have no clue in what order they were assigned. I THINK it’s possible schedule B is after schedule A (since their day 2 goes longer).

I believe A is before B as well. I was on schedule A and had my Kelley advising at 8:30

My son had schedule A, and he also had an 8:30am appointment, with an advisor in the journalism school.

Has anyone taken these classes, and if so, what is the verdict for a freshman? Also, best teachers in these classes? Thanks!

I can’t answer the philosophy question, but…just FYI… schedule A doesn’t mean you’ll have an EARLY appointment though…my child was schedule A and she was the LAST Hutton appt for the day, at 12:30. We didn’t leave campus until very late (3:30 ish) because the appointments are ABOUT an hour (they’ll give you more time if they feel you need it…that’s what they told us anyway). Then you still have to register and get your ID (registering can take a long time, ID takes no time at all). They SAY to plan 2.5-3 hours after your advising time to be done. And they say schedule B SHOULD be done about 6pm.

^ it will most definitely not take anyone that long unless they are really slow at picking classes. I had advising at 9:30 in Teter, but showed up at 9 and they let me in. I was out of there by 9:45 and got ID and registration in the library done by 10:30. The nice thing about Day 2 is that there are no lines.

Do they give you bags at orientation to carry all your papers in?

Yeah, you get a little IU backpack thing.

it sucks though. mine tore the second day.

i just checked my onestart and it shows my grades. What is the math and FL out of? I got some weird numbers so i’m not sure what they mean

math was out of 26, my foreign language (spanish, so yours may be different) was around 70

I think you are finding the raw scores on the page “View Test Scores.”

I think if you look at the page “View Test Credit” you can find out where you placed into for the foreign language.

Also, for math, in past years on that page it has said “TEST-BL 99MATH01” when you are eligible to take M118 and M119.

Parents get a bag too, LOTS of stuff to tote. And…re: Loon Lake saying it will not take that long … it might not have taken him/her that long. But…Hutton Advising is “down the road” so that’s a bit of time. He/she took only 45 minutes, but…for a complex major/minor combination…lots of POSSIBLE AP credits (scores weren’t in yet), etc…it CAN take longer. As for registering, my daughter had to wait. And, as I’ve said…NONE of her top few choices were available and one HUGE class (one section) was a time conflict with several other classes. It CAN be a mess for some people. However, if time becomes an issue…I guess you can just grab classes and go home and change them later if you’ve got a plane to catch.

They give you 48 hours after you first register to make changes (drop/add, etc.) to your schedule without charging you extra to make the changes. So that should be plenty of time to look over your schedule after you get home and are in a less hectic environment.

^ They DEFINITELY never told us that. How much to they charge? I’ve changed mine twice…

It costs $8.50 for every class that you change.

Does that get charged to the bursar? Now that you mention it I think I remember hearing that… although I think they said it’s $8.50 for every DAY on which you change a class rather than every class you change.

It sounds like they charge $8.50 for the day you make the changes, and not per change, which is a pretty good deal.

Drop/Add Access Fee
A drop/add access fee is assessed to students who choose to make schedule adjustments after two business days have elapsed since the initial registration. The fee is assessed for each day during which the student makes schedule adjustment(s).
