We are from the Boston Area, I don’t know a lot about Catholic but it seems like a great school. What schools would you compare it to?

What is it you like and are looking for in another school? Catholic identity, size, emphasis on liberal arts, urban location, East Coast location, other factors? Lot of kids looking for Catholic schools that apply to Catholic also apply to Villanova, Loyola Maryland, Providence, and Fairfield.

Thank you, My son was accepted at Fairfield and Providence, and Catholic. We know many students at Fairfield and Providence but none at Catholic. He really likes the idea of Washington DC. Academically would you consider it in the same category as those schools?

I’ve never been to any of these schools but Catholic. I live in the Philadelphia area. It does seem that the same kids apply to Fairfield, St. Joe’s, and CUA. I don’t really know that many kids who’ve gone to or even applied to Providence. My sense is that if you like Providence and you live in Philly, you go to St. Joe’s. In fact, those were my daughter’s exact words, “Why go to RI when Providence looks just like St. Joe’s?”

In my opinion, Catholic has a distinct advantage of being located in DC where there are so many more opportunities. CUA also has a great student/faculty ratio. Kids won’t get lost in the crowd.

Thanks!

I would consider Catholic less academically rigorous than Fairfield and probably a little less than PC as well. That’s not to say they don’t provide a great education - it’s a terrific school. Have you visited Catholic? It’s a beautiful campus, but you do have to realize it’s next to a very sketchy part of DC. There is a subway stop on campus, so you can hop the subway and get anywhere in the city easily. But if you’re not used to a big city it’s a little intimidating at first. DC does have so much to offer.

Thank you. we are going to visit in April. Any thoughts on where to stay? I have heard the surrounding area is not great.

We always stay at the hyatt on Capitol Hill. Real convenient and great weekend rates
