I self study + online courses to make up to 8 AP tests junior year. I think guidance counselor input on how rigorous a schedule is compared to the offering is what’s important.

I got an interview call and it went well. I’m gonna work in the Lab of Computational Neurodiagnostics this summer.

I will be creating a Facebook Group soon.

Search for Simons Summer Research Program 2014.

Couldn’t find the group, and is it only for people who have been accepted already?

@Ryzepro120 would you mind sharing any details about the interview (i.e. did they contact you in advance telling you when your interview was? Was the interview in person, on the phone, or through Skype?)

Actually, it wasn’t really an interview. I got an e-mail from the program director saying that I was being considered by a certain scientist. The scientist then scheduled a call with me where she just talked about her research and asked which aspect I am most interested in. She told me that she will be taking in me and two other students for Simons.

Ohh, well hopefully I’m one of them! Was neurobiology your first choice? If not, what was it?
Also, when did you get the email? (Sorry for all the questions!)

P.S. YAY RYZE!

I think I said Biomedical Engineering or Computational Biology. One of those two. I got the e-mail about two weeks ago.

You did not have to submit SAT, transcripts, and all that trash to Simons. What Simons (and other other research programs like RSI) look for is not simply a laundry list but also potential and capability/ interest in the sciences.

BTW, the essay will make or break you

Thank you @TurgidGuanaco. Regret not letting him do the same.

@TheAnomalist

I’m not sure I entirely agree. I understand your sentiment, however. Especially with the Simons Program, having a faculty member believe in your is imperative. A faculty member would take the 2200 with the passion for the field over the 2300 without the demonstrated passion. However they may also take the 2300 with passion over the 2200 with passion.

With an extremely competitive program such as RSI I’d say a laundry list is going to be even more important. The essay is always important.

Has anyone got acceptance/rejection notice?

The email said that notices would come around early april, so I wouldn’t think so

According to the 2013 thread someone got it around 3/25 in 2013.
In 2013 some Garcia notices were issued one month before the declared date.

^I have doubts that I made it into the program. If people already received the email before April, that means that I, myself, was not considered as first priority.

Oh well, even if I don’t make it, nothing will ever stop me from achieving my dreams.

^BTW, if you update your application by emailing them and receive -->no<-- response, does it mean that Simons already declined your position in that program? (Please be truthful)

@TheAnomalist: Whom did you email to? Are your recipients the director and the assistant?

Who make the decision? Do they consult the mentors?

Has anyone else received their acceptance/rejection email?

Meh just got rejected

Got into Garcia but rejected from Simon’s… Thought I would get in with a 36 ACT 800 on 2 subject tests and 4.6 GPA but I suppose not. I think my essa for Simon’s was lackluster and I didn’t get to work on it as much as Garcia’s which imo was much better. Shows just how important the essay is.
