Singaporean connection

hey thanks

essay is the best option to bring attention to that... but if you have something better to write about then you could just include it in your own resume (yes do up a 1 or 2-page resume yourself instead of just relying on the horribly-formatted CCA report or the tiny space allocated in common apps).

Hi,

I will really appreciate if you can help. I am a poly graduate with a Diploma in Business. I plan to take B.S. in Marketing in US and I need some advice.

My GPA is very poor, 2.72(C+), as for my SAT, its 560 for critical reading, 570 for math and 480 for writing. I am wondering whether it would be better to go to a college or go straight to a university. I will really appreciate if you can recommend some college/universities that might suit me. Please advise.

When you say college, do you mean community college and then subsequently transfer?

What are your O Level grades? Some universities will admit you based on them, so a poor GPA in Poly won't kill your chances. As far as I can see, the problem is your SATs. It's low if you compete among Singaporeans. Buy the College Board blue book and practice; it's not very difficult to bump up your SAT scores with a little bit of familiarisation with the format. Just one more question - do you need financial aid or will you be able to afford the entire 4 years of education?

keep retaking until you get 2000 and above.

If not, just go Australia.

bumping up the Singaporean connection

"ehh... bumps~!" ;)

haha let's revive this thread!

so where r you guys heading this year? (i'll still be stuck in singapore thanks to NS but i'm juz kaypo anw)

to zx24: i think going to community college for the first 2 years and then subsequently transfering to a good full college/university (with a strong GPA hopefully) might be a good idea. i'm not sure about the entry requirements for community colleges but i think it should be very easy - though it would help if you can bump up your SAT scores a little. i don't know much about community colleges but Diablo Valley College and Green River Community College participated in a recent US college fair (Experiences '06) held at Marriott Hotel this year, so I guess they are pretty keen in getting Singaporeans. Do search the web for more options. Yes, Australia is another alternative...

Diablo Valley? Hahahhahahahahahahaha....

Prelims in 2 weeks!!! STRESSSS

Yeah I was quite amused by their names too... and probably coz of that no one seem to visit their booths... Haha hang in there, prelims is probably the hardest phase. A'lvls shouldn't be as bad... though you'll probably still end up preparing as much. But enjoy your freedom while you can anyway - i assume you're a guy?

Yes.

I am plotting the overtop of the PAP.

Nadash, good luck for your prelims!

Thanks. ^^

I finished.

And screwed up Art badly. The best I can do now is probably AAAD

sorry for digging up this old thread, but would like to seek some help. firstly im in sec3, i know its way too early to start thinking about university apps but the other day when my friends were talking about how they were going to US high schools after sec school made me have a rather bleak view of the future. looking around these forums made feel rather depressed cos everyone has such super high scores, ecs etc. I really want to get a good education overseas, but can't afford it unless I get a scholarship. which means ive to really brilliant, but in school im just someone teachers don't remember. i have average grades, no leadership positions, someone who doesn't stand out. sorry for the long rant, hopefully anyone has some advice?

Well, i started planning since sec 2, so planning early is nothing wrong at all. I don't intend to go to a US universities, so leadership position doesn't really matter to me at all, even though i do have some position as class committee, etc. If you intend to go to a US High Schools, then maybe you should try to participates in more activities and be more proactive in community services, especially since you are aiming for a scholarships. Try to participate more in classes too. I do have frens that goes on to a US high school after O Level, and they didn't even participates in any activites other than their CCA, where they are just a normal member. Are you in RI anyway? BTW, you still have time to catch up since you are only in sec 3, and do talk to your teachers, as they might provides you some information about High School overseas.

shib-

problem: you have average grades, no leadership positions, and don't stand out.

solution: start getting better grades; join activities that interest you- put yourself out there! and of course forge strong relationships with teachers who will recommend you. I'm not very familiar with the singapore education system so I can't give you very concrete advice. nevertheless start working toward your college dreams NOW. since you say sec3 is "early," then you should have enough time to do this before you start applying. best of luck!

lovely! finally stumbled onto the sg thread...

so this new wave of army ORD personnel waiting patiently for their turn to fly off 07?

so do they even look at Alevels grades? I heard A level grades is equivalent to their 1st/2nd year of their uni?

O's + SAT is enough?

Kt Kegon, hahahaha. I bet you are too. Remember the bakery store!!

Kahlen, you can get credit exemptions for a lot of first-year modules if you have acceptable grades (which, of course, depends on the discretion of the universities) in 'A' levels.

well for u of chic u can't...gotta take placements.......zzz

haha kt kegon... eforums eh?;)
