filthfate.. 16k for tuition fees, which means you can handle room and miscellanous and everything else right? if so, then you shd look at ut-austin and other large state/public schools. tuition's generally cheaper. however, utaustin is harder for intls to get into cus they reserve a significant portion of their places for texas residents... that said, it does have one of the cheapest tuition fees for one of the more highly regarded programmes.

well, maybe you could try a community college first before transfering to a 4 year college... saves you some tuition fees and you could use what youve saved in the first 2 yrs to go to a more expensive college thereafter.

jus curious, but why not australia? australia is very poly-friendly... the universities there have a lot of experience with polykids.. so it might be easier for you!

thk you for all ur helpful comments...i meant 16k per yr is the max limit for me...i know australia is a popular place to study but i want a diff. environment although it's easier to get into...bt get into a biz sch in the states will be my wish....u mentioned "you shd look at ut-austin and other large state/public schools. tuition's generally cheaper"...may i ask for some reccomendations? ut-austin is the only one i know...thks!

Texas's cost of living is low including their tuition fees! In Texas there's another "large state/public school" called Texas A&M University. It's not too bad too.Well...the top notch large state/public school's are like Illinois,Wisconsin,Michigan,Washington-Seattle(I'm going there!) etc. the list goes on.You may consider Purdue too, their business program is quite highly ranked though they are mainly known for their engineering.AND...it's quite easy to get in...like 80% of their applicants got accepted.Another good business school to consider with your budget will be Uni of Indiana-Bloomington.It's actually ranked pretty high in the US News Business Undergrad Rankings and known as a good budget school for undergrad business program.Try to explore the different schools' websites. You can even go down to Borders to take a look at the diff college books they have. There are many things to consider when choosing an uni.NOT JUST THE ACADEMICS!

thks kuni...will keep ur recommendations in mind...

Indiana Bloomington also has quite a large pre-existing Singaporean community, something which might matter to you. If you're paying 16k for just tuition fees alone, you'll be able to afford most Public unis. What's your score for SATs?

dtwn...it's an embarrasing 1160 taken 2 yrs back i tink...shld have gone for a re-take...

filthfate: Apply to retake the June/October SATs. Most big public universities are very stats based, and your SATs will hurt you.

I am sorry to interrupt but Purdue University is easy to get in? I thought that their acceptance's rate is only about 20%?

kinkid...im sure its higher than that. you don have to take SATS to get in. its pretty easy to get into, just dun expect finaid.

I agree with scandal-less, its very easy to get in Purdue. If u have good stats then u can expect some departmental scholarships too.

yes.Purdue is easy to get in.Their acceptance rate is around 80% or even above.I have even heard of ppl entering using their O level results.Need I say more? haha

Some of the earlier posts in this thread mentioned how people applied to pretty decent schools with O level results, JC grades, prelim grades, so you never know I guess. Indiana supposedly also takes in O level results if you're interested filthfate.

By the way jeremy, which UK unis did you apply for or get accepted to?

Even some of the top schools take O Levels. What matters is that you must be what they are looking for in their student body their year; of course, you must show that you can cope with the courseload as well - doing well in SATs might be a good (albeit iffy) indication to the school.

dtwn: I applied for Cambridge, LSE, UCL, King's College London and Durham, all for Law.

Chances?

Where do i stand for college?

Hi. International Student from Singapore here and i would really appreciate some help for my stats and chances of getting into Duke, Columbia, Johns Hopkins or University of Chicago.

i'm not really sure cos i heard that international students have a hell of a time trying to get in. and my SAT scores are low compared to many of the ppl here.. grateful for help!

Pretty good chances. Add cornell, decent school that the scholarship boards seem to fancy, not tough for sciencey singaporeans to get admitted.

Try to bump your maths SAT score and you are competitive enuff to apply for HYP. =)

I believe you already posted your stats before... and like I said previously, you are good enough (top grades, good scores, interesting CCAs) for the majority of the schools that you mentioned (perhaps with the exception of Columbia), though that doesn't guarantee you admissions. Admissions is a crapshoot - you can get admitted at MIT and rejected at Cornell. So, all these reassurance from us won't give you anything more than a guage of what you should expect.

And yes, bump up your Maths score.

By the way, if your ECs are really extra-ordinary (international aid trips etc) how would you put it into your application?

Write a brilliant essay around that extraordinary event

hi...

okay what wud u chose between warwick and NUS for engineering?
