Singaporean connection

fiona_ -> prole from NUSHS?? Pleaseeeee hahaha.

haven't you heard? there are two groups of people, elite&uncaring and proles :D

^ exactly my point! hhaha

and a quick google search/stalk reinforces my point even more =P

^^hello, please do not generalize the whole of RJC based on one person. :(

Anw she was being sarcastic in the post, the Shu-Min girl.

Experiences '08 "America Ahoy!" - The US Universities Fair

prospective ?umichers? can check this out.

i'm just eminently biased against raffles, sorry all you good folks who just happened to join it haha. anyway, nobody really cares about wee shumin (i think) except to laugh at her.

Er yeah, and also use her in conversations just to poke fun of RJ? Hmmm.. Poor her.

fiona why are u biased against rjc ppl then?

erm actually it's because i'm quite ****ed with kelvin at the moment
(noone except 1234d will understand this) anyway ... school pride? i don't know really P:

hey nadash! being in a LAC, how will you cope with job prospects in Singapore? :o

well its very hard for me to improve on my ECs because firstly, my school does not allow people to have more than 1 CCA. Also, my student councillors are not allowed to be involved in ANY activity and really i mean any, even performing a dance item on stage for 5 minutes. So , can anyone here suggest what i can do? :(

i dont think ECs are limited to what you do in school outside of your academics...so you could probably do something else outside of school.

yea but the thing is most singaporeans who went to US unis are math/sci olympiads, debate national medallist etc.

hmm yup im trying very very hard to find outside activities.. still not sure what to do cos im not a math/sci type of person and quite hard to find societies to join outside.. :)

^Definitely not the case. There are tonnes of other activities outside school that doesn't require you to calculate something. You are not looking hard enough, believe me. Lit students organize plays, act in plays.. The arts students in my school (ok that includes lit people) organize events whose proceeds go towards the needy... And the school definitely can't stop you from going to old folks' homes or children hospitals to volunteer on weekends. Get the drift? Be creative and if you really want to, I'm sure you can find activities outside school.

true. do you like combat arts? take up muay thai, BJJ, MMA or something! :P

that's only for HYPSM. and even so, there's still a chance at HYPSM even if you don't have those.

Valour::

I would think that Singaporean employers do recognize LACs. We got two PSCs scholars in Amherst currently, and Goh CT was from Williams.

Furthermore, I intend to go graduate school.

but let's talk about people who don't have a scholarship or guaranteed employment when they get back... and let's talk about non-PSC and non-MNC employers who won't know better. I think you guys might encounter some difficulties.

Goh CT was an NUS undergrad and Williams grad. but he was also a PSC (colombo plan) scholar, haha

your best bet is to go grad school, yep.

hmm so for going to grad sch, do they look at your ECs too?

EC's count in grad school admissions only if they are related to your intended major.
