Entirely possible to take SAT Subject Tests during J1 year provided you are familiar with the materials though.

Oh you shutup screw... You're crazier :D

It does feel nice to go to a "stupid" school. =) Whose stupid students just got themselves on youtube for birthday ragging. Idiots.

^ I'd have to say that video was horrible and funny at the same time =p.

"Interesting" thread on STOMP regarding overseas universities vs NUS/NTU/SMU: NUS/NTU/SMU > foreign U???? - Talkback

Well for one thing, the only thing novel about the video is that it actually got posted on youtube. Everything else isn't so much different.

SAT subjects? It's like a speedier but easier version of A levels MCQ, without the tricky/unanswerable qns.

Precisely! Who will post something like that on youtube? In this PC culture, you'll get STOMPed to death!

That thread was horrible by the way.

I just followed the link to the Stomp chit-chat on NUS/NTU/SMU>foreign U????. It was horrible.... the whole thread was reduced to name-calling, *****ing and reeks of..... for lack of a more socially graceful word..... "stupidity". Had to forcefully subdue my impulse to write anything there, lest I get caught up in that whirlpool.

That thread turned from an uninformed question into a continuation of the previous turdhurling. Lol.

I read the thread but I didn't really understand the points. Then again, my brain doesn't really work in the early morning.

^ There are no points. It just basically degraded into name-calling and personal attacks.

It's just not a very intellectual forum. Hardwarezone is worst- People discuss about ivy, duke, chicago in CC forum, they discuss about NUS/NTU/SMU and SIM external degrees.

I do agree that people who think highly of local universities are actually people from local universities. They always turn out to be sour grapes and call people who went overseas as " CMI in Singapore".

And why is education always about jobs this day?! Are our local NUS/NTU/SMU universities or trade/vocational schools? The local schools never say anything else about their school except dubious rankings, jobs and starting salary.

Do discussing ivies, duke and chicago make a forum intellectual, while discussing NUS/NTU/SMU and SIM external degrees don't?!?

Another perspective: Perhaps the reason why the pple who think highly of local universities mostly turns out to be pple from local universities is because they're the ones who are entitled to assess them. It's like you can't go around proclaiming a movie is good or bad unless you've actually seen it first.

"Why is (local) education always about jobs?": I think it's a matter of necessity, we just don't have the population and necessary economics/spare change to allow for majors and subjects that do not directly contribute to the society.

And finally, all schools (believe it or not, even the ivies) trumpet their own horn, it's all part of marketing. Local schools are just doing the best marketing they can without going too far as to outright lie.

Hi guys, just realised that O Level results is more important than A Levels for application to US uni. This is bad news for me. I had 5 B3s, 1 A2, 1 C6. Does that mean top unis are out of my reach? J1 here. :(

We're not talking about how the government chooses to channel its resources to vocational or practical subjects, but about the generally competitive culture that causes individuals, like those who post on singaporean forums, to be obsessed with practical subjects and subsequently to think of education as nothing more than a means to an end. Sadly, our competitive and pragmatic national mindset doesn't easily permit an appreciation of education and academics as an end in itself.

Why do you believe so? Anyway, you're still going to apply, right? All you can do is just work very hard for your A levels.

Valour: i don't think anyone would say that O Level is more impt than A Level.... but then again i don't think your O Level was sterling so you shouldn't send it

Woah fast response here. Dont you guys sleep? :P

Anyway, some people sent their predicted A Level grades , some just O level grades and some NS guys sent their real A Level grades. Im just curious how can US unis just accept people who only apply using their O Level grades?

i actually think quite highly of our local unis... regarding the forum thing, i think most, if not all, singaporeans would agree that the top schs like harvard and oxbridge would beat nus/ntu/smu comfortably. the overrated overseas unis they refer to are the sketchy, half decent aussie which are basically degree mills, and i would agree that it's the cmi ppl who tend to go there
