Single Dorms

On the two Wes tours I've taken, I've heard very different things about housing.

On one tour, I heard that there are almost no singles, and it's all luck (good or bad, depending on the person) if you get one or not. However, on the other tour, I heard that there are a lot of singles, and everyone who requests one can get one.

Can anyone clarify this?

I know someone who was put in a single without requesting one, so there can’t be that much demand for them. most people don’t request singles their first year either because they want a roommate or because the only singles available to frosh are in the butterfields, which are farther (though not by much) than the other dorms. you’re not guaranteed to get one, but I don’t think it’s extremely competitive or random.

There are also singles in the Nics. At Wes you request housing by type, freshman only or freshman and sophmore. I dont know if it is normal, but it seems that this year, few people got what they requested. People requested singles and didtn get them, but people who wanted roommates got singles. Others who wanted to be in Freshman only housing got freshman and sophmore and vice versa. It truly does seem to be the luck of the draw.
