Do freshmen get to choose their roommates?

You can request a roomate if you'd like :D

As an imcoming freshman, I will soon have to pick a dorm. Any advice would be greatly appreciated on the following topics:

Freshman only vs. Mixed years

Single vs. Double

Any opinions about the freshman dorms (Fauver and Clark)

matthewaengel: there is tons of info about this topic in the other threads! how about you READ the other threads rather than just spamming them all with the same post?

Weskid, does that mean I can request a specific person or a roommate in general? Because I know a friend who was also accepted that I'd like to dorm with

You can request a specific person. Just make sure they remember to request you back, or reslife
won't honor the request.

Also, make sure that rooming with your friend will actually be a good idea. Wes is a small enough place that you'll make other friends easily, so that's not as much of a worry as it might be elsewhere, but just make sure you guys have living habits that actually mesh! I've seen friendships strained because of people living together...and that was after freshmen year, when people are already pretty adjusted to college life!

In some cases, like mine, having a random roommate turned out better than for my friends at other colleges, where they filled out some huge form to find someone compatible.

Yeah, apparently Wesleyan used to make everyone fill out a long form about lifestyles, preferences, etc. They stopped doing it for a year as a trial period, and had exactly the same number of roommate change requests-- turns out when you hypothetically think your college self will like to get up in the morning is not the determining factor in roommate compatibility! So after that, they did away with the form and just pair people up at almost-random...
