A friend of mine is looking for someone who missed the housing lottery or is still looking for a room to take over her housing contract. It would be just as if you signed up for the room yourself. It is a single room in Ujamma residential college. If you or you know of someone who needs a room please email her at smm238@cornell.edu.

ohhh gotta love it when people end up in LLC/Uj because there's nothing left and then Cornell tells them they cant break their contract no matter what. hope your friend finds a taker

nothings wrong with it. It's the african american dorm. Thus, its a majority black students. So...some people might feel left out and uncomfortable if they arent african american...which is only natural, not racist. On the other hand, there are people who love Uj regardless of what race they are.

Are the African Americans that live there cool with white/asian/whatever people living there? Or do they feel like...it's supposed to be THEIR dorm?

Completely cool with it. All the white and asian kids (about a handful) I know who lived in Uj really liked it. That said, I can see how it sucks if you end up with a single in Uj and all of your friends ended down on West.

I'm personally still rather torn about the ability to live in a program house as a freshman. There's something to be said about throwing everybody randomly onto North together. But then again, the first year at Cornell can be tough, as students adopt to many different changes in their life, so at the end of the day I think a residential support system of the type that a place like Uj or Risley provides may be a necessary evil freshmen year. Still, at a certain point we may find ourselves asking for Asian-American program houses, Republican-themed program houses, etc. etc.

But to anybody who suggests that they are just completely self-segregating institutions and shouldn't even be around for upperclassmen, well that's just a silly argument. Because then you would have to be for the eradication of the Greek system as well, which is by far the most self-segregating institution on campus, and the University provides plenty of support for Greek life as well.

Hasbrouck is slightly past north campus but it is actually meant to be graduate housing...it will not be available to undergraduates after this year.

Hasbrouck was a one year alternative for incoming transfers this year after the transfer center was torn down last spring...

I liked living on west....close to collegetown and campus. Only bad thing is the slope you have to walk up everyday. But, that's what the bus is for :-)

cayuga...theyre building an asian-american community center soon, its already been decided. granted, not a program house. but your prediction is right...the whole program house thing just leads to more and more little groups being formed. groups that prevent people from just mixing with the whole campus.
