Discovered brown cheese (brunost/Gjetost) while in Norway. Apparently it’s a love it/hate it sort of thing. Count me in the Love It group.
Four very long, hot hours raking mud, planting grass seed, then laying straw over it has earned me the scotch I’m having in the bath.
I forgot to put sun screen on my neck so you can just call me redneck suzy.
Actually if one reads my post it mentions the “obvious problems” with climate change. Good grief. But you mentioned vineyards and lack of snow. Cherry picking snow totals. How does one do that ? And I listed the government source data for 130 years.
And actually no, despite your insulting post. I’m not a climate change denier. Spent the day today with the one of the leading geo scientists in the world today. Woods Hole climatologist and MIT PHd currently studying the co2 levels in Greenland and the surrounding oceans. Very interesting work.
It’s certainly obvious to me that there’s been a lot of snow in Vermont recently - my little brother according to the camp journal seems to have spent every other weekend up there. OTOH, here in NY I’ve never used so much A/C as this summer.
My comment, partially in jest, about vineyards in NE deals with predictions for the future - several decades from now not current snowfall. Plenty can be found online about what scientists are predicting out several decades and the impact on the ski industry as well as other New England industries like maple sugaring and lobstering - not good. If you talk to any lobstermen, you’ll know they are already seeing the effects.
There is a reason we are grabbing tooth and nail to our patch of dirt in the rainy PNW. It will be tropical paradise here soon enough - we migh have to scratch that plan about a condo in HI!
Got more mileage of our wine passports today! Discovered a nice winery that sells sparkling rose in cans. Cool label, too. And it tastes good! We bought a 6-pack. Had a can tonight…
Day drinking Chardonnay after shopping off-exchange health care plans for dh and me as our COBRA expires. I took the Cadillac plan, but dh took the Honda plan - at least for the remainder of the year. To make things exponentially frustrating the COBRA was to expire 9/29. NO pro-rating for a single day, so we could go one day with no coverage or pay the differential (well over $900 even with dh on the Honda plan) for one day’s worth of coverage. Of course, we paid for the one day. We get to start shopping all over again on 11/1 - hooray! We’ll re-evaluate then. Dh is taking the cr@ppier plan until then. I hope he changes his mind.
There is seriously not enough Chardonnay!!
I walked in to the house after shopping all afternoon in 112-degree heat to DH and one of his friends listening to bossa nova and sampling scotches and bourbons with some fabulous appetizers DH had picked up at at our local olive mill. Of course, I joined in and discovered after the ninth pour that this is probably the way life is supposed to be. Who knew? ?
Went to Costco yesterday and took a look at the attached liquor store (not part of Costco due to ridiculous NYS rules regarding licensing). Found my all-time favorite New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc for $9.99 (lowest price elsewhere at least $13) and a decent Riesling on sale for $8.99. Score!
I hate to drink by myself. Anyone else sanitizing from the inside out? Pull up a stool. Six feet away of course. Join me in Quarantinis.
Almost that time here, but it’s got to be 5 o’clock somewhere! Beautiful day in Virginia, debating between a martini or a gin and tonic with some added St. Germaine.
I was actually already having my five o’clock somewhere martini (half portion) when posting on coronovirus favorite beverage thread.
Nursing it till husband comes in from yard projects, and have dinner ready on the stove. Early dinner because no lunch because… yard projects.
Excellent breakfast though, first local strawberries from lovely local millenial farmer surviving the pandemic economics by going online to serve her neighbors. Win/Win
My days are sort of arranged around meals and drinks lately.
adding: I was drinking Hendricks for years, till reading the fairly recent New Yorker essay about traditional gins/martinis/etc… After much consultation with those who seem to know, I’m using Beefeaters. Saving a fortune. Feel more traditional. Not sure if I’m sticking with it though. It’s definitely a different drink.
It’s 4:58. Gotta make the important decision very soon - cosmos or wine?
Thinking wine for today. Cheers
Dark ‘n’ Stormy, which fits both my mood and the weather.
I bought a large package of Fever Tree ginger beer not long ago at Costco, which undoubtedly explains why H has been drinking so many Dark ‘n’ Stormys.
@alh, what kind of sweet vermouth are you using in manhattans? I have a bottle of Carpano Antica that I’m rationing out carefully.
Tonight’s choice - a Boulevardier, just for something different.
Yep. Same. Antiqua Formula. Husband picked it up for me a while back as a special treat.
Sabaray, I think you might enjoy the Death and Company cocktail book, my husband’s new bible. He now mixes two different vermouths for our Manhattans, depending on the bourbon. Love Boulevardiers! Tonight it may be a vodka martini wi
@Lassie3, I will definitely check that out. My new favorite book is “Drinking French” - David Leibovitz. He is doing an apero hour every day (except Sunday) on Instagram which has been a lot of fun to follow. Thanks for the suggestion!
Definitely Antica.
We had a Zoom wine tasting this afternoon and a Croation white wine with our take out dinner tonight! Num num. Where are the marmots?
