Sinner's Alley Happy Hour (Part 1)

marmots

maybe a place to ask a question impossible to ask real life friends…

has anyone else fallen down the Caroline Calloway rabbit hole since the article in NY mag The Cut last fall?

If I were by my lonesome, sitting on a stool at a real life bar, I might ask the person next to me, “Hey… Caroline or Natalie?”

How nice to see old friends hanging out in SA!! On my silly Intermittent fasting diet I cant drink after 8, so will have to start early tomorrow. Our weather is supposed to be horrible, so alcohol is definitely in order.

Is it too early for brunch mimosas?

I was happy to see this thread revived. ??

Never too early! @alh, my RL friends have no idea who Caroline and Natalie are. I confess to following along on Instagram to the extent the content is free.

Of course not! I’m happy to split that champagne with you, @dragonmom. (I’m glad these stools have arms…)

I think I’ll ask DH to make more Dark and Stormies later.

Someone just played “Ding Dong Ditch” on us and left a cheesecake on our doorstep. Then I got a “Bon Appetit” text from my neighbor.

Red or white wine with cheesecake? Maybe a sparkling wine.

Whichever you choose, leave one on your neighbor’s doorstop!

Waving hi from sinners alley!! Leave any crankiness at the door. No whizzing on cornflakes here! This thread always brings a smile!! Marmots and naugahyde can rise again  Had lime drop martinis for dinner the other night. Very tasty!

DH made us dark and stormies this week. Spiced rum, Maine ginger beer, and lime. SO good!

Is it a bad thing that we were more willing to go to the liquor store for triple sec (for the martinis) than to the supermarket for dinner items?

We do curbside pickup at both the grocery and liquor store.
It may be a bad thing that we have finished the “big” bottle of Deep Eddy’s grapefruit vodka, but we’ve enjoyed it. I dump a peeled grapefruit, some vodka, cranberry juice and a squeeze of lime in the blender with lots of ice. VERY refreshing, and some say “healthy.”

OOh… and I have all that mint growing in pot on the deck!! More recipes please!!

I’ve returned to a classic - gin & tonic - this week, due to the heat. So refreshing. I have a recipe for an Aperol spritz slush I want to try. @1214mom’s cranberry grapefruit slushy sounds delish.

Absolutely not!

My H has been making homemade margaritas for me this summer. Soooooo good!

We also got a subscription to the cocktail club, Shaker and Spoon. Not all the drinks have been to my taste but it’s been fun. They send you everything but the alcohol. Their drinks are very creative. My favorite so far was a drink with sparkling wine, st. germain, blueberry simple syrup, and lime. Very yummy.

I have seen the ads for Shaker and Spoon and wondered how it was. Thanks for sharing your experience! I want to try @1214mom’s concoction.

Right before everything stopped I got a copy of David Lebovitz’s “Drinking French” and we’ve been trying different cocktails from that. He offers quite a few recipes to make your own liqueurs and a number of non alcoholic beverages too. When we were in Paris last summer I really developed a love of menthe a l’eau - basically mint syrup and water (still or sparkling). Feeling sad that traveling wasn’t possible this summer, I ordered French mint syrup from my friends at Amazon and have enjoyed those a few times. Very refreshing!

You can of course do my drink with grapefruit juice instead of the vodka, and it’s great in the heat of summer.

It is rose and crisp white wine time here and Total Wine has curbside touchless pickup. I don’t want to see our credit card bill ?

My mixed drink of choice this summer is an Aperol spritz. I enjoyed them last year for the first time on a trip to Italy.

We already went through one bottle of Aperol (oops maybe it should be I - since I am the only one who drinks them). I have been buying what my friends calls the baby bottles of prosecco (those half bottles in 4 or 6 packs). You use about a half of the baby bottle per drink (so you don’t end up with an open flat bottle).

Place ice cubes in a large wine glass
Pour in 3 parts prosecco
Pour in 2 parts Aperol
Pour in 1 part soda water

I never have the orange for the garnish but it looks nice if you add an orange slice as a garnish
