I am in my junior in university, is it possible to sit for exam without degree? I know that I can't become CPA without a degree but wanted to know if I can take the exam before I graduate. Again, I am not asking if I can become CPA without a degree but possible to take the exam without CPA credentials so that after I graduate, I don't have to worry about exam.

Thank you,

PS. I live in CA and have over 120 units and meets requirement for accounting and business classes.

A bachelor’s degree;
24 semester units in accounting-related subjects;
24 semester units in business-related subjects;
150 semester units (or 225 quarter units) of education;
Passing the Uniform CPA Exam;
One year of general accounting experience supervised by a CPA with an active license; and
Passing an ethics course.

It doesn’t say that you have to have a BA in Accounting, just have to have one and the 24 semester units in both accounting classes and business. Remember, that is 24 units of each totalling 48, you can’t count 1 course in both categories.

Edit. You CAN sit and get licensed following this path as well.
A bachelor’s degree;
24 semester units in accounting-related subjects;
24 semester units in business-related subjects (accounting courses beyond the 24 required units may apply toward the business units);
Passing the Uniform CPA Exam;
Two years of general accounting experience supervised by a CPA with an active license; and
Passing an ethics course.

The difference is it doesn’t require 150 units which makes it only recognized in CA. You most likely cannot sit in another state so you would live here your whole life. This path will no longer be available beginning 2014, so either get licensed now or get 150 units.
