Sitting in on classes

By the time we head to the East Coast, we should have heard from Montclair, U of Arts and Hartt. Does anyone know if these schools will allow my D to sit in on any classes when we visit? (if she is accepted)

Your D will need to call or email the schools directly and ask. Many schools allow admitted students to sit in on classes, but some schools do not. Once you’re admitted, though, you are treated differently from simply a prospective student, and many colleges want to recruit you. She can email the department chair directly and ask for what’s possible. My D found sitting in on classes to be one of the most informative parts of a visit. If your D hasn’t already, another good thing to do is to eat lunch in the school cafeteria, hang out in the student center, and visit the library, and if the weather’s good, hang out in a quad or student area outside–these are all good ways of getting a feel for the vibe of the college.

Your child can also take voice lessons from the faculty at many schools…that can really help, too. You have to contact the voice teacher directly. Most don’t even charge! I found out it is more common with VP, but MT kids can do it too.
