Six College System - Does it really matter?

I don't understand what effect the Six college system has. Don't all students from all colleges attend class together? Aren't the majors all the same? Other than dorming and GE requirements, what effect exactly does going to a different college than your friend have?

--Thanks

the main reason is the GEs and dorms like you said, but there isn't too much a difference other than that. some of the colleges might be more social than the other, and you'll probably end up eating at different dorm food places most of the time (cuz of location), and meet different people. there isn't any major diff. other than dorms/GEs.

Its basically all about housing and GEs... It was meant to be a way to make the campus more unified by making it like having small colleges within a very large university so that people from the small colleges could mingle and get to know eachother better, and have more efficient staff, etc. The whole unifiying and social thing failed however...
