SJSU Business?

Hey! I am currently a senior at a California high school not in Santa Clara and really want to go to SJSU. I have and overall 2.8 GPA but every year my GPA has gone up…my best year being junior year with about a 3.1 GPA. For my ACT…as they do require the writing part I took the first act plus writing in September and waiting on that score. Previously I scored a 26…so I’m guessing my score will be around there. I want to major in Business-entrepreneurship and I know the current Threshold is 805 but I also know it changes every year. I’m just stressing out because I went to visit it yesterday and loved it. Lastly, I’m on track to get 3.8 or high GPA for senior year (if they look at senior year or just the beginning of it!) thanks in advance for all the help! :slight_smile:

Senior grades do not count toward admissions although an upward trend in GPA will help. Senior grades will allow you to maintain your provisional admission. What is your CSU/UC GPA? http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

What is your EI and how far away ate you from the threshold? All you can do is apply and hope for the best. Bumping up your ACT score will help your chances. You can still be accepted into the school but not into the major. You could then try to switch majors later.
Good Luck

It the threshold is 805 and you’ve got a 26 ACT, you need a 2,73 or better CSU GPA. The threshold does move a bit year to year but, so, I’d want an 820 or better just to be safe.

It is a good idea to apply elsewhere too. Options are a good thing at your age. post your CSU GPA and other interests for more guidance.

Good luck.

Thank you both for the help. I just got my ACT score back today, 27. My threshold would be 830. I know this is greater than the 805, but do we have any thoughts or predictions on how much this might increase?

I have seen up to a 30 point change in SJSU thresholds, but this has been for Nursing and CS which are ultra competitive. I think you are fine.

Good to know. Last stupid question…what basically is threshold? Is os the minimum requirements to become considered or is it just being at that like or above you become accepted just for being over your particular threshold or what? :slight_smile:

Each year SJSU will rank their applicants for each major based on their EI. They start accepting from the top down until all spots are filled. Once their spots are filled, they publish the lowest EI accepted for that major. It is possible to be accepted into SJSU but not into your major if you fall below their threshold. You can be accepted as an Undecided/Undeclared major and then have to try to switch majors down the road which many times is not possible.

From the SJSU website::

“You cannot change your major during the admission process. Once you are admitted, your mandatory orientation, advising, and registration will all be based on your choice of major or assigned undeclared. After you are admitted, change of major is never guaranteed and is by petition only. You must also enter an alternative major on your application to SJSU. We will use this information for advising purposes only, and will not consider your alternative major in the admission process. Transfer students may not apply as undeclared.”

Wow thanks for all your help! I am just beyond stressed and knowing there’s not much more I can do to bump up my chances right now I have been looking for as much information to judge the reality of getting accepted. You’ve taught me a lot about the admissions process and put my mind to ease with an okay 830 threshold, thanks again Gumbymom! And NCalRent :slight_smile:
