Hi! I’m a very worried Junior who’s scared she won’t get into any schools. :"( I’m ending my junior year and I’ve been stressing out a lot.

GPA: 3.3 ( junior year brought my gpa down because of math. I used to have a 3.7.)
SAT: Taking it again during october.
ECS:
[ *] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Interact 3 years (board member) , SYNC 1 year(co-founder), ARK 2 years (Media officer) , OurMelody 1 year (secretary), American Red Cross 2 years (vice president), Yearbook 2 years (Head), Tennis team 2 years
[ *] Job/Work Experience: Barista at Gongcha

[ *] Summer Activities: RWD (read write and discover tutor), SSTEM (stanford medical program)

If this helps, i’ve taken 4 ap classes and 2 honor classes.

What was your SAT score? Intended major? CSU/UC GPA?

Repost with test scores and UC/CSU GPA.

For the Cal states, they use an eligibility index to rank applicants by major.

EI= (CSU GPA X 800) + (SAT Math+CR)

SJSU is the only Cal state that publishes their EI threshold each year. From the link you can determine your chances based on intended major. Expect CSUF/CSULB to have slightly higher EI thresholds except for CS.

My uc gpa is the same as my unweighted.
SAT: 960 (new one March) but retaking it for sure since it was my 1st time. I guessed on so many because i took so long on the reading portion.
Intended Major: Nursing, but i might go undeclared

Nursing is super competitive and you will need a higher GPA and test scores for a solid chance at the schools on your list. Using your posted stats, your EI is 3600. Looking at the SJSU Threshold for Pre-Nursing (3950), you have a large gap to make up in your test scores.

I see no solid Match or safety schools based on your stats, so you need to consider looking at a few more realistic options and get rid of a few Reach schools: UCSB/UCD/UCI. For a safety, you should consider you local CSU and also consider some of the non-impacted campuses if you plan to pursue Nursing since it is impacted at all CSU campuses.

Another option would to attend a CCC for 2 years, get a competitive GPA and transfer into a Nursing program.

I wish you the best of luck and really prep for your SAT.

To give you a little context:
I got admitted to UCI & UCR, rejected from UCSB, UCD, UCSD with:
3.69UW GPA, 1690 SAT, 26ACT, some EC with leadership roles
Intended major: computer science

Apparently for SJSU, location is a pretty big consideration factor. I’m assuming you live close cuz u work at Gongcha, I’m from Cupertino and my friend with a 3.3 CSU GPA got in for EE, so I think you have a solid chance at SJSU maybe also riverside. tbh for the other UCs, you’re gonna want to write some amazing essays! GL, your post reminds me of my junior friends haha
