sjsu vs sdsu

Have you been admitted to the CS major at SJSU? (Since it’s heavily impacted, it’s very hard to get into. And if you ddin’t get into it now, it’s very hard to get into later on.)
I don’t understand your question about transfering from non cc - are you saying you want to atted either SDSU or SJSU for 2 years only, then transfer to another university?

So you are applying as a Freshman applicant not a transfer student? I agree with @MYOS1634 that unless you got a direct admit into the CS program at SJSU, you will have a hard time trying to get into the program once you start there.

yea i have got an admit for cs.
my main aim is to attend a university for two years and then transfer to a better university if possible

Can your parents pay full costs at a private university? Because you won’t be able to easily transfer into a CA public or USC AND you’re unlikely to get financial aid…

yea money won’t be an issue @‌MYOS1643
just tell me that wether my college reputation would matter to get me transferred or locality or grades

@jasraj1235‌: If your Stats enabled you to again direct admission into SJSU CS program (which is extremely competitive), why didn’t just apply directly to any of the schools you plan to transfer?

It’s harder to transfer from a CSU if you intend to transfer to USC or a UC. This is due to the legal way things work in California.
If you intend to transfer to a private university in another state, or to UWashington, then the matter is different. However it wouldn’t make much sense to make it in CS in a CA school.
What will matter, ultimately, is how well you do, if you’re able to take advantage of the opportunities at the university ( and you’ll have to look for them, be quite proactive!) etc.
in short:
SDSU will be better for 2/3 of the classes, SJSU will be better for the 1/3 related to CS.
Neither’s reputation will matter for transferring.
Locality = you mean town? I’d prefer San Diego to San Jose, but ?? it’s subjective.
In any case, apply to the Honors Program at both so that you have more interactive classes and a few perks that’ll make your life easier.

@Gumbymom i dint have an advisor so i dint know whether my stats were good enough
especially my sat had demoralised me which was only 1650 that is why i dint apply to the big shot college,
but i know that i have the potential as i have been coming second in my school from the past 4 terms so i was hoping to work hard in my 1st 2 years and then transfer.

@MYOS1634‌ thanks was very helpful

@jasraj1235: If you could post your GPA and SAT score, that would be a big help to all other CCer’s that are waiting for a decision for CS from SJSU. According to the SJSU website, decisions are not expected to be posted until Mid-February, so you must have great Stats. In the above post, you stated your SAT was 1650?? Is that correct, since it seems on the low side for a CS direct admit?

Like @MYOS1634 stated, transferring from a CSU to a UC will be very hard since there is not a list of accepted transferable classes. If you really want to transfer to a UC, then you should do 2 years at a Community college and use TAG:http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/transfer/guarantee/
If you meet the requirements for TAG, then you are guaranteed admission to the UC of choice (except UCSD/UCLA/UCB). Also community college transfers will get priority at the UC’s. Transferring from a CSU is possible, but you can get an excellent CS education at many of the Cal States. You could always go to Grad School at UCB.

And you may not want to transfer, since SJSU CS is top-notch. The problem is the other 2/3 of the coursework which is really so-so. SDSU is pretty good in everything, and much sought-after - not as good as SJSU for CS, but much better overall. You may not want to leave actually!
I agree with Gumbymom; can you provide your stats?

@Gumbymom my sat is 1650 but my sat subject test was 760 maths 2 780 physics
110 toefl and rank 2nd in school with 83 percentage

@gumbymom @MYOS1634‌ thank you for making me realise that SJSU is top notch for cs because i always underestimated it and always thought that i am not capable of going to a good university.
its just my sat that I can’t go to better university but i want to thank you and all others who have commented

@Gumbymom‌ along with academic achievement i have played cricket and basket ball in district and state level along with it i have 250 hrs of social service

@jasraj: Good luck to you and Congratulatiions on your acceptance. SJSU is a great option.

@Gumbymom‌ i had one last question.
that if not transfer but can i get a good university for my post graduation(masters) if i work hard in university like sjsu

Even with that SAT score, I’m sure that if you wrote to the dean of the Honors Program, you’d get in (arguing that, after all, you took the test in a foreign language, yet scored as well as some SJSU students who took it in their native language, and that your SAT Subjects show that you’re able to do good work.)
The Honors Program offsets some of the university’s downsides; it allows you to be with the university’s more motivated students for some of your general education classes, and the classes would be smaller (hence, more interactive and better contacts with professors - always good personally and for recommendations). The Honors Program is not very comprehensive, but it’s a first step to demonstrate excellence. If you combine Honors Program and CS at SJSU, and do well there, then yes you can get into a good Master’s program.
If you do well in SJSU CS, you’re likely to get an OPT offer in the Silicon Valley, work for 2 years (with a good salary), and with that you can apply to literally any Master’s program.
You realize that SJSU CS is heavily recruited by top employers in the Sillicon Valley, right? Which is why it’s so sought-after for a major, when the university itself is so-so.

yes @MYOS1634 I am aware of the opportunities.
can u tell me how to apply for honours program? i mean is that also an online process or is it an offline process, which is to be done once i reach the campus ?

You have to apply. You complete 6 courses through 4 integrated classes.
