I am having a hard time deciding between these three schools.

SJSU is local and cheap. It's good for its engineering programs, but I'm not into it. The surrounding area is nice as it's in the Downtown. The classes are crowded from what I've heard. The admitted day for students was way too crowded and leads me to believe that the school is normally like this. Fighting for everything is fully necessary here.

UC Merced has excellent facilities, class sizes are intimate, and the institute is new; but is about 2.5 hours away which is inconvenient. Does anyone have any information on the quality of the Humanities/Social Sciences program? I know that the engineering program is their focus, but I'm not sure if anything else is up to par. Also, I already know it's not reputed.

University of the Pacific is a private school, good for Dentistry, Pharmacy, and Music. It's the most costly on my list, but it's the standard for a CA private school of its caliber. The surrounding area is very undesirable, meaning that students stay only on campus.

Any insight on which one would be the best would be highly appreciated.
