I think that means you’re in, because they said they consider whether or not you’re going to be accepted BEFORE financial aid in the information session I went to. I’m not applying for financial aid, so I didn’t get an email, but I think that’s an early acceptance… if so, congrats! I don’t think they’d send you that and reject you.

Well, they said it was an error, so I think it was just a computer mistake on their part. This happened last year too. I remember my friend said their computers went down and sent something out right before they got their letters.

js1011 - Did you fill out the financial aid profile and submit it with your application? If you didn’t, that’s the only reason I can think of for the email other than it just being an error.

Let’s hope the letters arrive tomorrow…

We got that email too. I know I did everything that was needed for financial aid so wasn’t sure what it meant. I have been hesitant to think it was good news, but maybe it actually was. Man I hope so!

Of course I filled it out, if they hadn’t they would have told me to a long time ago. If you read the email it says nothing about filling the CSS or FAFSA out. Not to mention it says “to attend Skidmore for the next academic year,” and “stay in touch.” Honestly, if Skidmore is off-base enough to send that email to kids who don’t get in, I don’t think I’d want to go there anymore. That would be so cruel.

The email was most likely meant to be sent in a few days, and it wasn’t just a generic email, they put your name in it. I’m sure you’re in, but it must be torture not having the official confirmation yet.

I got this e-mail also, but the only thing that I’m hesitant about is that Skidmore is need-blind so the Admissions office and the Financial Aid office work as two different entities. I think they sent this e-mail to everyone who indicated that they would be applying for aid.

Skidmore is most definitely not need blind. If you are full pay, you have a better chance of getting in. Skidmore does have generous financial aid. If you get in, they really work with you! This may be a generic email, but re-reading it makes me wonder. I wonder if it only went to ED1 applicants or others. Anyone know?

But the way it’s worded it sounds like they’re speaking to admitted students only.

"We have been notified by our Admissions Office that you indicated on your
application you will be applying for financial assistance to attend Skidmore
College for the next Academic Year. "

“information regarding our financial aid process, including forms
required and deadlines”

The only financial aid processes that are not run through whatever college you attend, are FAFSA and CSS. They said OUR financial aid process.
Also, a girl in my grade at my high school also applied ED and applied for aid and she didn’t get the email.

You’re right, the wording most definitely suggests that you’re in, and if you know someone who DIDN’T get it, that’s a really good sign for you (sucks for her though). I seriously doubt that Skidmore would send an email that is so suggestive of admission to certain applicants, and then reject them. Very unlikely.

Seriously. Skidmore definitely by far has the nicest admissions staff out of any college I visited, and they have a reputation for being warm and friendly. I’d expect something like that from a university, or even a stuck up liberal arts school like Dickinson or Colgate, but absolutely not Skidmore.

Also, even if the admissions and financial aid offices work separately, it makes no sense that the admissions office would notify the financial aid office of the status of a student who will not be admitted.

Yeah, I think their response would have been much more apologetic if it really had been a complete error.

Really, a girl who applied to Skidmore ED did not get this email? Now I am really confused. What do you guys think? This weekend has been almost unbearable to my daughter. Not the happy go lucky girl I know.

Honestly. If anyone who got that email doesn’t get into Skidmore, than Skidmore doesn’t deserve them. That would be the ****tiest thing ever (for lack of a better word). From the looks of it I would think that your daughter got in if you guys got that email.

I agree. Waiting for the letter still sucks, but seriously, take the email as a good sign. I can’t imagine it means bad news.

Yeah, and the e-mail’s title was
WELCOME, from Skidmore Financial Aid…

I went back and looked at the email my daughter forwarded me and it does say “Welcome”. That would be rather cold if you got a “Welcome” and then not admitted. It is going to be a long one or two days!

you really think it’s a good sign? i mean, you don’t think if means a deferral, do you?

I think it’s definitely a good sign if it said “Welcome”, and for all the other reasons stated previously. And also, to clarify, CollegeDadX3 is right- Skidmore is NOT need-blind. They see if you ask for financial aid, which makes it harder to get in. That being said, if you got an email, I think it’s definitely a good sign. Especially since that other girl who applied for financial aid DIDN’T get the email.

Just another question- do people think it’s easier to get in if you’re a boy? I’m a boy, and I know the male/female ratio at Skidmore is 40/60, and I’ve heard that most colleges try pretty hard to get an even 50/50… however they’re technically “not supposted to discriminate against race, gender, blah blah blah.” What do other people think? I hope it’s easier for me!
