Skiing?

Hello.
I've never been to Rochester (or anywhere in New York) but I understand that it snows a lot. Are there any ski clubs you can join in the school? Does the city of Rochester have ski resorts or just places to go skiing? I couldn't find any on google. Cross country or downhill it does not really matter.
Thank you

Lots of place to cross country ski, and the Genesee Valley park is very close if you’ve got your own equipment. Best place to downhill is Bristol Mountain which is about an hour from UofR. They have a snowboard/ski club that goes about 7 times/season but I’m sure you could get there easily enough other times.

Rochester gets snow but every year is different. This year was average snowfall at best. Last year we had almost no snow. Two years ago? A lot of snow! Buffalo and Syracuse both traditionally get more snow per year.

The nearest downhill skiing at at Bristol Mountain–which s about 1.5 hours away.

If you are western skier and used to Rocky Mt or Tahoe skiing conditions, you’re likely to find eastern skiing disappointing. Neither the snow quality or the conditions are as good as at western ski areas.

UR has a ski club. They try to do a monthly ski trip during the winter.

If you skinny ski (X-C), you can do that on campus–assuming there’s enough snow. Snow is hit or miss. Some years there’s lots of snow; some years none at all.

We had friends who lived in Rochester for many years and were active members of the Rochester (city) Ski Club. They liked to ski the footpath that runs along side the Erie Canal.
