Hi I want to skip college on the first day. I will go to the University of Maryland College Park. I am not ready for college but my parents are forcing me to go anyways. I am woefully behind my peers mentally and socially I still have no driver’s license. I think I might be asexual as well. I hate the first day of school drama anyway. I must admit that I am very insecure. How do I skip the first day of college? Have you guys skipped? What is the best way to do so? I was thinking of pretending to bike to school but go to my local lake to fish, or go to the mall instead and return home, or hopefully help my clients with their yards. (I am a paid gardener in my neighborhood by the way). I would also pretend to be sick for my professors. The only problem is how do I get forms and the syllabi on the first day while skipping? I unfortunately will not be living in a dorm. I will be living in my parent’s house. How do I not have my parents find out about this? Are there better days to skip anyway?
By the way; if anyone tells me to not to skip school, grow up, or get a life. I have something to say to you. If I could I would drop more F bombs than an apache helicopter on you but I do not want to defy the forum’s rules. So leave me alone and do not go a praddlin’ on about how I should attend the 1st day of class.
Thank you.
And thanks for the folks who want to help me.
@beetleman - You don’t get to issue instructions that limit peoples answers. If they think the best thing is not skipping then that is what they get to say. You are free to ignore them, and your defiant attitude has no place on here. - Fallenchemist, Moderator
Assuming the system works similar to how my university did, you won’t even have the first day of classes until a few days after move-in day. Pretty much, you’ll meet people in your classes before you even go to classes, anyways.
But really, it might not be a good idea to skip the first day. Lots of professors/lectures require mandatory first lecture attendance, or there’s a good chance you will be dropped from classes. If you wanna skip, I don’t recommend doing it on the first day.
Actually, I don’t recommend skipping at all- but everyone has their reasons, I guess.
Doesn’t sound like you are ready for college yet. Not everyone is ready to go straight out of high school-nothing wrong wit that. If you already want to skip and you are going only because your parents are making you, it sounds like you probably won’t do well anyway. Have you talked to your parents about taking some time off and working this year until you are more ready? You could even take a couple of classes at a community college. There is nothing that says you have to make it thru college in 4 years. There are also other alternatives depending on your interests-trade schools for one. Good luck!
Thank you. You made me feel better @takeitallin but I have talked to my parents about this countless times but my parents are still forcing me to go to college this fall. How would I skip class though. I hate 1st day drama. My dad is more excited for college than I am anyway.
@GMTplus7 thanks for being so helpful (Sarcasm). Plus my parents refuse to let me take a gap year. Help me skip class not give me alternatives that my parents will refuse anyway. Look at my question. I specifically said: “By the way; if anyone tells me to not to skip school, grow up, or get a life. I have something to say to you. If I could I would drop more F bombs than an apache helicopter on you but I do not want to defy the forum’s rules. So leave me alone and do not go a praddlin’ on about how I should attend the 1st day of class.
Thank you.”
By the way if anyone gives me dumb advice like that I will try to report you.
Thank you.
If you go to the mall or fishing, then you risk being seen. Best way to skip is to go sit in the library all day. Ask your classmates for copies of the class materials. If you can’t figure this out on your own, you probably are not ready for college yet.
Thank you. You are the first helpful person. I think that the mall and the lake is far enough from the University of Maryland College Park Campus. I will get bored at the library though. Any other places to hide out that might be fun? You are right midwest dad I AM NOT READY FOR COLLEGE YET!
What is your problem dude? Go to class, it won’t be that bad trust me. You don’t want to be dropped from classes just for missing the first day. Also, what was the point of mentioning you were asexual?
Not sure what you mean by “first day drama.” Maybe you are picturing the first day of a high school year and not understanding what college is like. The first day of each class, the professor typically goes over the syllabus and what you need to buy for the class. You might even get out early from class on the first day. Some first days will be on Monday and other classes have their first day on Tuesday. There is not a whole social scene to it, and you don’t have to make friends or have lunch with anyone or those sorts of things like in high school.
^ Yes, the first day is pretty laid back. Some profs hand out the syllabus, ramble on a bit, and then dismiss the class early. Wait to skip a class when the semester starts to get more stressful.
@Dodomaster. I am not saying this again. I need advice on skipping the first day of college. Nothing anyone on this forum says will convince me otherwise. If you do not follow my the criteria of my question I am sorry, but I will have to report you. I bring up I might be asexual because don’t a lot of people have sex in college. I would be considered odd because of having asexual tendencies.
First step, go seriously go. I know you are nervous, but once you get there you will feel at ease. Don’t worry about befriending people, listen to the lecture, get your supplies and syllabus then book it either home or to your next class if you have one. People have sex in college yeah, but on the first day I doubt anyone is gonna want to pry into your sex life or bang you. Take it easy, relax.

Just remember that he wasn’t skipping the first day. As the other posters are indicating, you probably are making much more work for yourself by skipping the first class. But it sounds like your mind is made up for now.
