Can someone help me really quick who knows more about college then I do. I'm sure this is simple.

I'm going to be starting at Pasadena City College. I thought I missed out on the fall semester but the other day I was looking for open classes and found a few. One of the classes I picked up was Introduction the College and that is a counseling class. I don't really know much about how college works so I thought it'd be beneficial to learn things maybe I should know about resources college offers etc.

The problem is that the first class is tomorrow and I have work at that time. So I emailed the teacher telling her that I wouldn't be able to make it due to work and to not drop me , I planned on attending every class after tomorrow. Is it alright to miss the first class? Will I loose out on a lot of principle information which I guess is gone through the first day?

The class is from 10am to 12:50pm so maybe they will go over a lot of the basics A to B information. What do you guys think? IS it a big deal that I don't go to the first class?

Thanks ahead of time

Yep, it’s a big deal. If the instructor is discouraging, consider dropping the course if possible.

GO to the professor’s office hours, apologize again for missing class, ask for a copy of the syllabus and ask her to let you know about anything that you missed. THese things happen. THe important thing is that you’re in college.

Missing the first day of class is not the end of the world. I think you’re just nervous about your first day of class. Go there and do your best. You’ll be fine.

It’s not that big a deal to miss the first class. Just apologize profusely to the prof and be there for all the rest of the classes. The first day is mostly handing out syllabi and talking about the structure of the course.
