I am entering as a freshman in the college of engineering and taking Mathematics 53, because I "AP"ed my way out of Math 1a/1b, which is generally the recommended thing to do. I took BC Calculus my Junior year, so I know I am definitely rusty on some of my math skills. How difficult and fast-paced is this class? Will I be totally lost since I did not take 1a/1b at berkeley? What sort of things shoudl I look over/review to stay on top of things and stay at the same level as those who took 1B the previous semester?

I don't think math 53 is that hard. Just review some vectors and integration techniques and you'll be fine.
