I sleep at 12 and wake up at 6. Then, I nap on the bus if I have to. I usually like to spend my time on the bus reviewing vocabulary on my quizlet app.

I also drink 2 cups of coffee every morning (black coffee). I personally believe that the benefits of coffee outweigh the cons so I am willing to endure the caffeine addiction. After finishing my coffee I either drink tea or water for the rest of the day. That helps me stay awake.

I also like to workout every other day or I try to workout everyday. Exercise improves concentration and relieves stress.

And some people like to put all their effort in all their work. I put all my effort in the most important assignments and put in less effort to fill out unimportant worksheets that are due for homework. I find this method more efficient.

I am in college now and luckily have the ability to arrange my classes so that I can get eight hours of sleep or so depending on homework.

However, in high school, between marching band 20 hours a week, 3 AP classes, work, volunteering, and science fair (not just a silly project here, I was working with nano particles), I was getting around 5 or 6 hours a sleep except sundays when i would get around 10.

I’ve got a zero period in the morning so I have to get to school at 6:45. because of that + 4APs + a job + ECs, i usually get ~6-7 hours. i used to drink tea every morning so i could stay awake, but i stopped at the beginning of this year because it would make me just CRASH after lunch, and I’ve found that doing without the caffeine, though it sucks in the morning, helps a lot towards the end of the day- which has given me a significant leg up when it’s time to go to practice or work after school.

I don’t need much sleep luckily. Tuesday night I got 2 hours, Wednesday I got 5 and Thursday I got 3 and I was fine in school all week. Also, lucky for me my school starts at 9am.

Sometimes I think that I’m doing something wrong, because while all of my other friends constantly talk about how little sleep they get, I get six to seven hours a night. I’ve never had to pull an all-nighter; the latest I’ve ever had to stay up to during school is midnight. I’m in all AP, and in a few clubs, marching + symphonic band, and a varsity sport.

How can I get more sleep? I’m always sleepy in 1st period, which is gifted geometry, arguably my most challenging class. I tend to procrastinate and waste time on the internet a lot at home, though I used StayFocused 1st semester and turned it off during the winter break. I just turned it back on yesterday. Also, I’m after school on average 2-3 days a week and have chores that take 20 min to an hour depending on the day. My hardest classes are 2 APs and 2 gifted classes(math being on of these). I’ve noticed that most of my smart friends get math done quickly, but I have a hard time with math and often spend hours doing math. Any advice?

Next year I will still be taking only 2 APs(phys+APUSH), cause for some reason I can’t take AP LIT or LANG as a junior. I also plan on maybe joining NHS. On top of that, I want to play more competitive soccer and hopefully make my school’s jv or varsity team, which will result in even less free time especially if I make the school team in spring.

"How can I get more sleep? … I tend to procrastinate and waste time on the internet a lot at home, though I used StayFocused 1st semester and turned it off during the winter break. I just turned it back on yesterday. " I think you answered your own question. Try to get more things done on the weekend to lighten your load during the week. Being less tired will probably make you more efficient.

My mental illness has its advantages in that sometimes I can go without sleep! Ha, ha! Of course, sometimes in need a lot of sleep; those episodes can really harm my school performance.

I have pretty bad hours… usually around 4, and 6 if I’m lucky.
All things considered through, my early morning prep classes are over so I am back on my extra 30 minutes schedule.

If I’m hopelessly dozing off, I try to sneak in ~5 minutes of shut eye during class; for some reason it seems that after being in what I am guessing stage 1 of the sleep cycle for a few minutes, my body temporarily ‘loses’ the desire to sleep as much, so I try to do this whenever possible.

Occasionally I’ll drink a coffee from Starbucks, though I’m not a huge fan and it usually doesn’t help me feel any less sleepy. Water is pretty good in terms of keeping me focused enough.

If I’m just dead tired, I immediately take a ‘nap’ when I come home from school… I say nap, but it’s basically around a full sleep cycle, which for me seems to be about 4 hours. Then it’s around 8-10pm and I do my homework and go to sleep within one or two hours.

Sophomore. For a little background I do 1 AP and 4 honors classes, two sports, and do 1 club seriously (6-8 hours a week) and two others with varying (little) regularity.

During the fall winter season where I have no sports, I can do my ‘winter workout’ after school, get home around 345-4, and work from 5-8 or so. Then I’ll eat, shower, relax for a while, study a little extra or work on a project if need be, relax, then sleep from around 1130-7. Baseball season isn’t bad either, I’m home by 530 and just skimp a few assignments/get started on work a little quicker. In bed by 12.

Football season is where things get tricky. Most of the time I get home around 7, and am too wiped out/sore from the practice (really tough football program) to get started until around 8:30. I’ll be up until 2 AM most nights, and get around 5 hours. As someone that needs sleep, this kills me. I’ve been considering stopping football because of this, and some knee problems it’s constantly causing. But that’s a different story.

Sleep deprived in fall, not so much otherwise.

Only taking 3 APs and I only get a decent amount of sleep when i don’t finish my homework. It doesn’t help that I have school before 7. One of my main problems is the fact that I hate all my classes. Even the classes I usually like are ruined by some god awful teachers. :(

I know this isn’t the most studious thing to do, but I’ll tell you anyway.

When it comes to reading assignments, you can often find online summaries so you can keep up in class the next day. DO NOT DO THIS TO SUBSTITUTE FOR THE READING. This is really valuable when the extra 1-2 hours of sleep can really get you through the next day. Then, whenever you have some free time, you can finish up the chapters.

I know this may not seem related but any help on how not to procrastinate? I plan on taking 4 or 5 APs and I have good grades but I need to learn how to manage my time with this. Any tips please?

EDIT: Sorry for double post… stupid computer

I’m taking 4 APs, and some weeks are better than others. For example, in the past week, I have been averaging 4-5 hrs a night (this is including Sunday, Friday and Saturday nights). But many weeks, 6 is the norm.

Well the problem with me is, I just don’t like sleeping. lol. I know it sounds silly, but I sometimes just stay up late at night even when I have nothing to do to go on the internet on my computer, because I just don’t want to sleep. Some days I just get about 4-5 hours, and somedays I get sleepy so I get about 6. It doesn’t help to having to wake up at 6:30, and sometimes earlier if there’s swim morning practice either. I cannot recount when the last time I get at least 8 hours asleep was. Sigh. I know it’s not healthy, but I just don’t like sleeping. And some of my friends who are on the drill team gets even less sleep since they have morning practice almost everyday. Kind of crazy to think that we’re supposed to get a least 8 hours when I don’t even get close to that.

Freshmen here… My classes honestly aren’t hard at all. If I didn’t need to do homework, I would still pass the classes with the same grades. 4.0 gpa, 6 college credit classes. Teachers just give WAY too much busy work.
Also in 2 varsity sports, and the earliest I get home pretty much all year is around 6:15. If it’s late, 7. Then, I still have to shower and eat, and I start hw at around 7:15 to 8 ish. My math teacher makes the homework ridiculously long (at least 1 hr, usually 1.5-2 hrs), and for science, I usually have an insanely huge assignment (usually a worthless study guide) due Wednesday or Thursday each week. Those two classes alone take until 11-ish, and I scribble the homework for the rest of my classes, and I go to sleep around 12 (or 1-2 if I decided to procrastinate on those meaningless but stupidly long “study guides”). And I wake up at 7, meaning I get 5-7 hrs/night.
