sleepingbag weekend--is it worth it?

I've spoken with few people who goes there. Are they helpful or just for "fun"/"entertainment"?

I want sure about driving 850 miles for any sleepover...

It is amazingly fun and helpful. You learn so many things that will help you no matter which college you go to.

My friend had a bagger when Pittsburgh won the superbowl and we went out and rioted (flipped cars and set things on fire). That probably wont' happen again but the point is, it was very fun as well as helpful.

sounds violent, barberic, but fun...i guess dangerous--flipping cars?!

Yea, im with alreadyaccepted in saying that it is fun and extremely helpful. When I went, I learned a lot about CMU I didn't know from the quirky little tour and reading from online. SBW gives an entire different perspective. It made me confident I did not make the wrong choice applying ED. And, like accepted, I'm accepted too! :-D

edit: But its alll up to you. You will see more inside CMU, and will see things that may make you happy, some that may dissappoint you. Its up for you to decide when the time comes for making the decision, and I say SBW is a great help in choosing which way to go.

About the car flipping...there was one car flipped, so I doubt Accepted had much to do with it, but I will say that Sleeping Bag weekends are very informative. However, remember that if you're staying with a student on a Sunday night (when most bagger nights are), there usually isn't that much going on since everyone's trying to do the homework they procrastinated on all weekend. Your host will most likely show you around, take you to dinner, talk about the school (and take you to classes in the morning) and let you hang out in the dorms, but don't expect to go to a "wild college party" like one of my baggers did last time...we do have to do work here you know.

Try six cars, but no I didn't have anything to do with it I just set things on fire.

If you can, try to get a NH5 person to host you. You'll have a lot more fun and you can get booze if you ask nicely :)

It's true what CMU gal says but you do not have to stay with your host. Here at NH5, we take some baggers and then if the host is busy, the bagger hangs out with the non-busy people.

set things on fire? like that sounds more subtle :)

My S was at the Superbowl SBW and saw only a couch on fire near the campus in front of a fraternity. My impression was that the Pitt students were quite a bit wilder than CMU. He did have a great time.

More fire at cathedral or downtown streets. I don't really remember anything about that night so I couldn't tell you exactly where it was but it was pretty wild.
