When will the online application open up at West Point? Also, I know there is a section on the application asking for a class rank, but the thing is my school does not rank because it is a magnet school. I know an estimate of my rank would put me at about the 50% mark, which is not that good compared to everyone else. My unweighted GPA is a 3.72, and I know this would put me in the top 25% at a normal high school. Should I just leave the section for class rank blank and let West Point calculate one for me based on GPA and PSAT? Also, my PSAT scores that I will be using for the SLS application are as follows- CR-61 Math-59 Writing-67. Are these good enough to get me into SLS? Thanks for your help.

While I'm not an authority on this subject, I did go to SLS last year, and I got in with stats similar to yours. My GPA was a little higher at unweighted 3.84, but your PSAT scores are better than mine (I think I got 54's on all 3). Anyway, I think what really got me in was my class rank 3 out of 290. With that said, I believe you should go with the leaving the class rank section blank because if the SLS guy looks at your class rank, he might toss your application out the window without really looking at it if he sees you only in the 50% range of your class.

That's just my two cents though. Anymore comments?

You apply at the end of sophmore year or junior year?

I, too, will be applying to SLS this year. I hope I have a shot at getting in, as I play sports year round and have an excellent academic backing. We'll just have to see when the applications open up later this month.

Good luck to you man, I hope we both make it.

You should be able to apply online for SLS beginning some time in January 2007. About 800 candidates will be selected. Last year over 3000 candidates applied. Selection is made on a rolling admissions basis similar to the USMA admissions process so its best to apply as early as possible. SLS 2007 will take place in two sections June 2-8 and June 9-15.

SteslaS- you apply during the middle of your junior year.

Thank You

The application link is planned to launch on December 18. I emailed admissions, and they told me that.

Class rank and standardized test scores (SAT/ACT English and Math) are really important to West Point. If you are at a really competitiv high school it may help to send a copy of your school's profile to admissions.

I was at an event with Col Jones Head of admissions, this weekend andhe said they would 'tun it on" on the 18th I believe, at any rate in the next few days
