SLS question

I am going to the 2nd session of SLS and am wondering what the academic workshops are like. How many hours a day does one attend the workshops and what does one do? Thanks for the help.

These are last years' course descriptions:

<a href="http://admissions.usma.edu/moreinfo/SLSCourseDescriptions2005.pdf%5B/url%5D">http://admissions.usma.edu/moreinfo/SLSCourseDescriptions2005.pdf</a></p>

They may be a bit different this year, but I know I saw some of the same ones at least in the application. I signed up for Warfighting Simulations, Computer Applications and Programming, and Leadership and Ethics as my first choices. I wonder if they tell us before we get there which ones we got into?

I did warfighting, civil and mechanical engineering, systems engineering and mathematics. Every day but the last day last year they were cut into 2 2.5 hour sessions. On the last day we just had one 5 hour session because in the afternoon we had to go to Buckner. That last session was def the worst for me...nothing like 5 hours straight of mathematics!

i did chemistry (awesome), geography (we got to use some GPS devices and stuff), english (i thought it was great but the other ppl were bored to tears), and math (it was alright- i'm not a big fan of math though)

meg

You'll be issued a nametag that lists all of the seminars that you were placed in. I had Warfighting Simulations (Awesome: a brief lecture followed by a computer game tournament), Leadership and Ethics (Good: stay involved in the discussion or it will put you to sleep), Systems Engineering (Fantastic: a short summary; an interactive board game, which our team set the all-time lowest score at; and a display of their impressive computer simulation abilities), and Civil and Mechanical Engineering (???: I was so tired at this point, I'm not entirely sure what went on). I should also mention that one of my teammates in "Systems" was a gorgeous young lady from North Carolina(?), which may have enhanced my opinion of that particular course.:)
Good luck to all '06 SLSers. I'm just glad to be able to give some advice on this forum, rather than interrogate the current cadets.

PS- KEEP YOUR ISSUED WATER BOTTLE WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES! When it comes to that thing, the cadets are obsessive.

Well, by your enthusiasm for the Systems Engineering workshop I wish I'd taken that one... though I heard that the Computer Apps and Programming is good too... plus you get to keep the software they have you working with too. Sounds like a good deal to me. The Warfighting Sims one was my very first choice. Why go to West Point if you aren't interested in military?????

Btw... what was the military day like? I heard it was great, minus the 5 hr workshop landsy mentioned.

And I'll be sure to bring the water bottle. I'm a water nut anyway, always have my nalgene!

Please understand that you will not be guaranteed your first choices. So don't be too disappointed when you get your nametag and find out you're going to a couple classes that you didn't choose. Enjoy them anyway.

I'll just enjoy being there... though hopefully I did get my first choices, since I was accepted early. Even if I'm not, like I said, being there is enough.
