SLU Medical Scholars Program

USN's surveys of residency directors indicate that SLU is on average a 3.0 and UIC is on average a 3.2 in their overall assessment on a 1-5 scale.

lol brown is an extra supplement for med including two extra medical-related essays, SLU is just a checkbox, the only essays are the same as on the general common app which you would have to do for undergrad anyway

lol i was just pointing out one thing about slu..im not saying gppa is bad

ive been to those interviews and there r some amazingly smart ppl there..

but gppa's application requirement is 28 act while slu's application requirement is 30 act..so u definately cant say that slu has a worse quality of students...

thats true i was just saying that you cant compare the 1500 applicants to slu with the 700 to gppa since there are a greater number of mediocre students applying to SLU that just checked the box, if you subtract those out then the applicant pool is maybe a little more comparable, the quality of the top students applying to both is probably similar

so the question comes up..

is it worth accepting the slu medical scholars program

considering that you're paying 25K minimum per year and that its in st. louis...not that the campus isnt beautiful..but still

the question is... will i get a full ride... decisions come out this week

hehe, i was thinking that i should've went to the interviews, but i decided not to for other factors, but a full ride seems nice now

o yea and a little late now, but i got in...hehe, and i won't post my stats for confidential reasons (college "confidential" lol), but they weren't horrible

so i noticed that SLU when making decisions for this program really took the time to analyze your resume. I know two kids who had decent test scores but did little otherwise in terms of depth of research, leadership roles etc. and they didn't get in. SLU wants good doctors, not smart kids.

People have been wondering about why SLU doesn't have an interview. This is probably because, SLU has its interview during sophomore year, allowing students to mature and make final decisions about their medical future.

I recently finished applying for med school and man...I wish I knew about BS/MD when I was in highschool. Basically, college is very stressful when you are a premed. The quality and quantity of med school applicants is increasing with each year. I would guess that in 4 years the averages for matriculation will be roughly 3.7 gpa and 31 MCAT (~80th percentile). Ofcourse in order to be competitive you must also have research, hospital, and leadership experience. That said, if you will not be happy in St. Louis there is no sense in going, you'll just be miserable. But then again do you really want to study 3 months for the MCAT?

yeah that is true

however, the more i think about SLU, its ideals/campus beauty grows on me. I think i'd have a good time in st. louis. so, if everything goes as planned, i'll probably be in st. louis next year

Cool. Actually I'm probably going to be a M1 at SLU med next year...haven't decided yet though

I have a question..
The deadline to respond to SLU-Med program is April 1st. And some of my other decisions may not be ready until after that date. How can I get around that?
Is it binding if I say yes to SLU on April 1st??

Are you applying for medical school (I can answer this) or the BS/MD track (I don't know)?

wow, that's a really early deadline

bluedevilmike: I am talking about the BS/MD program which has a April 1st deadline.. Isn't it the same for all??

Had you been a college senior talking about committing to it for medical school, I could have explained the process to you. (Bottom line, it's just a formality.)

However, since this is for the BS/MD, then I don't know what the deal is and hopefully someone else can answer your question.

i don't think the deadline is april 1st

well, we hafta notify them if we are interested in attending. It's not binding, which is nice.

hey do sen'r grades matter? Is there a minimum hs gpa we hafta achieve in order to not be kicked off the prog?
