small colleges with strong premed program

I'm looking for a small Liberal Arts College that has a strong premed curriculum. Any suggestions?

Rhodes in Memphis.

Strong bio, chemistry, physics, neuroscience, and biochem/molecular biology majors. Research partnership with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital that puts undergrads in labs with research scientists. Pre-professional advisers (including pre-med) who will start working with you the first day you get on campus (which is during summer orientation) if you like. They will help all comers, they do not operate as gatekeepers as happens at some schools. Career Services offers MCAT prep assistance. Admission rate to med school is very strong.

Holy Cross in MA. their acceptance to med school is something like 82%–about twice the national average

Haverford, Carleton, Grinnell, Wesleyan, and Williams are the best choices, in my view.

Holy Cross-great pre-med program with new science facilities. HC’s medical alumni include Nobel Prize winner.

William & Mary and Davidson are very strong preparing people for med school.

Any good liberal arts college will have a decent pre-med curriculum. In fact, peer schools are all pretty much the same in this respect. Especially when you consider that med school admissions is not restricted to any liberal arts major. You can major in English if you like, as long as you cover certain science and math prerequisites (such as organic chemistry).

Where they differ is in their pre-med advising programs. I’ve heard good things about the programs at Haverford and Davidson but you should only choose one of these schools if it is otherwise a good fit. You can consider med school admission rates from various schools but it’s hard to cut through the hype. Schools do not necessarily all calculate that rate on the same basis. Some bump it up by aggressively detering weaker students from even applying.

Some LACs are known for relatively strong science/math programs or good science facilities (e.g. Williams, Carleton, Grinnell). Some are close to hospitals (good internship opportunities). However, any good LAC is likely to send many graduates to med school. The more selective the college, in general, the higher the med school admissions rate. More successful applicants to college become more successful as applicants to med school.
