Small School HUGE Aspirations

Hey CC Members,

I am a south Floridian (Sophmore) attending a small private Christian school in my district. I would love to attend a top-rank college of some sort, like an ivy for instance. Anyway, I know I am a smart student, but my school isn't that well known when it comes to college acceptances. My school now only offers a few (5 to be exact) AP courses for 11th and 12th grade, while other, larger private schools offer a wide range of AP classes and are very well known for at least having 3-5 ivy league acceptances a year. But because of my current personal status, I can only attend my current school. If I score well on SATs and take some AP courses online, do you think colleges will care that I attend this small, mediocre school? By the way, here are my current stats:

9th Grade
Mu Alpha Theta
NJHS
Varsity Tennis- 1st Chair, MVP
Intern @ Smithbarney
Swim Team
All honors
4.2 ,4.4
All American Science Award

10th Grade
XCountry
All Honors
Varsity Tennis
Intern @ Smithbarney, maybe Merill Lynch
Track
FBLA
Online course- Webdesign 1
Mu Alpha Theta
President
Yearbook Club

(the 10th grade stats are what I KNOW I will have completed by the end of the year...however the year is just beginning, so I may have more stats...)

My school's website by the way is http://www.csca.us

Any advice would help... :)

P.S. - Do you think if I mention the fact that my school doesn't offer as many AP's as other competitive high schools in my district so I took the time to take more APs online to have a better chance of competing with other students who attend such schools in my college resume for when I apply that the college will like me more/less than if I just changed schools and went to the school with more to offer?

colleges will get information on what AP's are offered at your school, so your course selection will be taken in context.

its an advantage to you if your school is underperforming.

really, do you think so? So then if I take extra APs online do you think it will be more an advantage as opposed to switching schools and taking their AP courses available

Well, it would show that you are maximizing the opportunities available to you, and I suppose that is a good thing. :)

so you think colleges will like me more for that as opposed to other students who have these opportunities available for them at their school?

If your school doesn't offer as many APs don't worry. Colleges like to see that you are challenging yourself, so as long as you take the most rigorous classes you're good. Some people also take AP classes at their local community college. You don't necessarily have to attend a top public school or expensive prep school to get into the best colleges.

you don't necessarily have to...but it sure does help
