SMART Scholarship ?

I have a question about the awards/honors and publications page. If it says only list things that pertain to these categories AFTER entering college, would they understand that freshmen most likely can not put as much as say, a junior? Would that hurt one’s chances?

^ bump, anyone?

I would try asking in thesmartforum.com. I can’t say for sure, but I would assume they would realize that freshman have less opportunities for awards. I’m not sure it would directly hurt your chances, but at the same time upperclassmen have an advantage because they have had more opportunities to prove themselves in a college environment. I am also applying this year (as a sophomore though).

I actually got an email from my school about this, but after thinking about it (school hasn’t started for me yet), I really do want to apply. I’m a little uneasy about this whole “selling” your soul away for 2 years to work for the government/DoD. Then again, I honestly don’t know if I am even competitive enough. I do have research experience and solid grades. I am entering my third year, Mechanical Engr.

Anyone have any insight about the process? I believe deadlines are in Dec (?). The benefits seem amazing!

I applied to the SMART scholarship last year and was a finalist but did not get selected. The only advice I have is to start the application early. The application process is pretty extensive especially if you get to the point of having to fill out a request for national security clearance.

you said “I believe nomination is very dependant on your top 5 selections, so it is essential to chose relevant facilities. No one will want to nominate someone who did not express any interest.”

How do you know what are the most relevant facilities?

I’m not positive but I think the SMART grant is going to be canceled after this school year. Got a letter in the mail.

The SMART grant and the SMART scholarship are two different things, do you know which the letter was about?

Has anyone heard anything since the application closed?

It is still too soon to have heard back.

I think my hair is graying with all this competition and waiting…

Just received my positive semi-finalist notification!! Good luck to all!

I also go semifinalist! Congrats otterdotter.

Time to wait a little more now! Recieved my letter today as well.

Uh, Has anyone gotten any notifications from them ? I’m actually scared now, I haven’t heard from them and that the SMART Forums, people have been saying they already gotten interviews/notified. =/

I still haven’t heard. Looks like tomorrow might be the date though…

Hello, I’m going to squeeze out some time from my schedule and apply for this scholarship. Honestly, I’m not even looking to win it. I just want to see how many rounds I can get through before they weed me out…

Oop, looks like I got weeded out on the 0th round. Looks like you need to be a US citizen. sad face

Any undergrad freshman applying??

Hi, I just saw this forum and decided to join. I just applied for the SMART scholarship and wanted to see who else was in it this year.

I am in thos year too
