SMARTS UCLA

Did anyone apply to SMARTS this year?

Anyone got in?

My sister got accepted and is excited about the possibility of attending. She’s still deciding between SMARTS and a couple of other programs. Are you doing the robotics or research apprentice program?

Gonna bring this up again for 2015.

Did you end up applying? @IBGuy101

@Imartin21 yea… i dont like my chances there are like 75 completed applications. They only accept 15-20. The worst part is that i don’t have a backup. :frowning:

Don’t they accept 30-40 students? That’s what it said on their website. Are you a junior? @IBGuy101

yea, im a junior. Check the smarts application again. They changed it this year… @Imartin21

What they changed:

Requirements

  1. Students currently enrolled in the 10th or 11th grade;
  2. Completion of any of the following math classes by June 2015:
    Trigonometry/Math Analysis/Pre-Calculus
  3. Passed math and science classes with a B or better (This one)
  4. Overall GPA = 3.0 or above (This one)

also:

SMARTS offers a six-week summer college preparatory program in these fields for 15 - 20 students. This year, all students admitted
to the program will participate in the Research Apprentice Program, a paid summer internship.

So ya, they changed it. I have a C+ in 9th grade biology. I hope they dont see that.

I applied to this program as well and just barely managed to get my application in before the 2015 deadline. I was under the impression that they would be excepting 30-40 students… thanks for posting the updated application requirements @IBGuy101

I know it’s early, but has anyone got an acceptance email/call yet? Maybe I’m too anxious.

No, not yet. It is may 31st. There are like 120 qualified applicants, so, good luck to all of us. @sheepishly

@IBGuy101 I contacted one of the organizers and narrowed it own to 4 days May 27 - May 31, 2015 where applicants would receive decisions.

Meh, not expecting to get in due to my poor grades in 9th grade. I have a backup anyways.
