Smith Business School Questions

Can someone clarify a few things for us regarding programs withing the Smith School:

  1. How competitive is it to be accepted into the various Fellow Programs? Our son read the links and we are curious as to how many people actually apply and how many people are accepted? How selective/non-selective is it to participate (assuming/hoping he meets the requirements)?
  2. Do we understand correctly that if he wants to participate in successive Fellows Programs, that he will be unable to participate in Study Abroad?
  3. Does UMD participate in the Fed Challenge? We couldn't find anything about it on their website, so I am guessing that the answer is no
  4. For those who participated in the Fellows programs what did you like/didn't like about the program(s)?
  5. If a business course prerequisite states x number of credits prior to enrolling, can AP credits that are being used to transfer over count towards this. For example, I can't remember for certain, but I thought my son said BMGT220 had a prerequisite of 23 credits. Would this mean that he would have to wait until Spring of Sophomore year to take this? This isn't a "problem," he is just trying to see various ways he can fit the courses, activities, etc., he is interested in into potential schedules should he decide on UMD.
  6. Can anyone tell me about their experience with the Lemma Senbet Fund? Was the experience helpful?
  7. How did internships work? Did you have difficulty obtaining one (I'm in finance - considering minoring in economics)? Also were they conveniently located for metro or did you need a car? Were they summer only or during school? Were they paid or unpaid? What year were you able to begin your internship?
  8. For those who have graduated or are about to graduate - what was/is the job outlook? Were you able to consider multiple offers or grateful that you had an offer? Is your salary enough to live independently? How about living comfortably? :P

Thanks so much!!!
