Smith College

What is the difficulty of admission to Smith College?
In all respects I mean. GPA, SAT, etc..

i have a wonderful program that my hs guidance councilor gave me... hang on a sec and i'll open it up, and get the shizzle for smith

aight... from my HS (which is an elite public school) - the average unweighted GPA and SAT is... 1350 or so (on the 1600 scale), and about 3.7 for average GPA...
of course that doesn't include EC/everything else

Post on the Smith College thread. We have some great parents with daughters at Smith who will be glad to answer any questions that you have. They are cheerleaders for Womens Colleges.

But. The Smith College area seems to be completely inactive??

Could you compare admission difficulty Smith College. VS NYU? (CAS)

Smith tells you precisely what they want -- "Heady, nervy, intellectually exciting." They have heavily de-emphasized SAT scores (after discovering they could find no link between SAT scores and on-campus accomplishment). They have the highest percentage of low-income (Pell Grant) students of any prestigious private college in the country (28%). They want students who will contribute strongly to the campus environment, and they want to make sure you can write (essays count for a lot.) On-campus interviews are recommended (the reason is, they know from experience that, if they can get you to visit, it is much more likely to become your first choice.) If that's not possible, they have a very active network of alumnae interviewers. Roughly 48% were accepted last year, but that is somewhat misleading as those applying are highly self-selecting, not only being women, but willing to attend an all-women's college.

My d. is an extraordinarily happy second-year student, who turned down Williams and a bunch of other places to be there. Feel free to pm me if you've got specific questions.
