SMU Early Decision for Fall 2022 Admission

Hello, I wanted to know who I could speak to if my counselor is not answering any of my emails. It is very difficult to make a one on one meeting every time I need to speak to him instead of just sending an email. Is there anyone else I can speak to?

Got an update from SMU that decisions are coming out later this evening for RD

My son was admitted to SMU early action but deferred from Cox. Anyone else on this thread that was deferred at Cox and has any idea when those decisions are coming?

Nothing yet?

nada.

My daughter was as well. For some reason she thinks itā€™s early April. I think she said she read that in an email, but sheā€™s not home so I canā€™t confirm. GL to your son!

The Cox deferred decision letter said before 4/15 and I hope we donā€™t have to wait that long. I am wondering if decisions will now be rolling or if there will be a decision date. If any one receives an update will you please post here? Thanks so much:) Congrats to all those accepted to SMU today!!!

Son was accepted after deferment. No mention of merit

Did you son also apply EA? Iā€™m curious how merit works in this situation as well. My daughter was accepted to SMU EA, deferred to Cox, without mention of merit. I would think she would qualify for some merit based on merit awards elsewhere but not sure how this deferral throws a wrench in all that.

Accepted (RD) - SMU Provost Scholar
Noticed it says, if you are applying for need based financial assistance, complete FAFSA, etc. We submitted all of those ages ago, but as SMU is one of the schools with no way to check that on the portal, never knew if they had it. Is this just generic wording?

Congratulations!! Can I ask what major was your son accepted into?

So my son was deferred from EA but got offered a Spring admit. I did see this in last yearā€™s forum but am curious if any others got this and your thoughts. It says option to study abroad, intern or gap semester. No mention of any merit so a gap semester might have to be a full time job!

Son applied EA but was deferred. He did not apply to Cox. He is a Liberal Arts type and i believe he chose History as a major. Canā€™t justify the price tag for a Liberal Arts degree. Not sure if any further merit scholarships will be forthcoming

Yes, my son was offered this as well. We are from Pennsylvania so OOS. There has been 1 other kid from area that graduated HS in 2018 and he was offered this situation so this is common and predates the COVID application craziness. The kid ended up taking the study abroad and could not have been happier at SMU set to graduate from the business school there with a great job offer. This kid was considered high achieving and well rounded. My son is also 3 varsity sport athlete, 2 sport captain, pilot, National Honor Society., 4.0 UW, class officer and many volunteer hours. I know this admission cycle has been a crap shoot for our kids but it seems SMU has shown consistency with the study abroad admissions offer. Hope that helps
