SMU Early Decision for Fall 2022 Admission

Deferral here. 4.05 WGPA 35ACT 3 Varsity Sport Athlete 8 AP’s and lots of Honors. Not sure what the application was lacking.

Great stats. Yield protection?
If you accept deferral and explain why you want in, update mid-year grades, etc. it seems to go a long way. Last year, a high stat friend’s son was deferred, accepted deferral spot but still didn’t show much further interest. Offered spring admission.

Just did some research from past years’ forums and it seems like you need Provost (30k yearly) to receive an invite to fill out the President’s Scholars App. Interesting thing though is that on the SMU website, it says the median SAT invited to interview (after you fill out the app) was a 1500. So there probably were people in the 1450-1500 range I’m guessing if the median was a 1500?

I’m wondering if there was a score cutoff for Provost. I have a 1460 and received Distinguished, but was hoping to be considered for the President’s Scholarship. If anyone has any insight on it, let me know. Perhaps people received the Provost Scholarship with a score like a 1450, and so it’s still only Provost Scholars that can be considered for the President’s Scholars.

Yield protection was a big thing last year with several mid size private schools. Is SMU moving in same direction?
Not sure scholarship will be offered if deferral is accepted and without merit money it no longer becomes a viable option

It does.

Do you know if you have to be a Provost scholar to get the invite to write the essays for President’s Scholars? Because it seems like everyone getting Provost has a 1500+ but the median SAT invited to interview for President’s is a 1500, meaning there are still a somewhat large amount of students who are below a 1500 yet still invited to interview.

I know nothing about the Presidential scholarship. As a former Hunt, I know a fair bit about it.

Daughter is in! No scholarship info - waiting on meadows

We are waiting on Meadows too. Have you heard anything about what $ range Meadows scholarships tend to be?

No idea!

Quick question. Son accepted. Yay it’s his number one. However, no mention of scholarship at all. Does that mean he is not a contender for any funds at SMU? Or is it possible to still receive Engineering scholarship or something? Just curious. He also applied for Hunt but now thinking he may be out for that too although his Leadership resume is very impressive. Thank you

Son got accepted but no mention of financial aid. Will this information come later?

My son has a 1490 SAT and received distinguished scholar. He too was hoping to be considered for President’s Scholar but is applying for Hunt as he is Co-President of his school, an editor of the school online paper, president of several clubs and an Eagle Scout, where he was senior patrol leader for two terms.

Our daughter was accepted! She’d previously been accepted to Meadows, so we are only waiting on Meadows scholarships.
It’s great as a parent to see a child’s hard work rewarded. Congrats to the other acceptances!

Daughter accepted but waiting on Cox. Anyone have any info on when that decision usually comes out (letter states a week but wondering if historically it’s sooner)?

I’m wondering if he and I both have chances for it still then. It seems like everyone who received Provost had a 1500+, though it notes for the median SAT invited to interview for President’s was a 1500, so there had to have been people in the 1450+ range I’m guessing.

Based on what you’ve said, he has strong extracurriculars and I’ve stalked the profiles of President’s Scholars…his seems comparable. I’m a bit disappointed as well as I thought I could maybe have a chance being class president, FBLA state president (along with a national level position), and some other leadership positions in clubs, paid internship, LLC business owner, etc. Maybe there is still a chance for your son and I! I really hope so.

The Provost/Second Century/Distinguished could be heavily weighed on academics, such as # of APs, class rank, and test scores. I had a 1460, top 2% of my class, max rigor according to my counselor (though that was only 5 APs…school offers very few). Most Provost recipients seem to have 8+ APs, so mine pales in comparison. If that truly is the case though, (that it is more academically focused), I would imagine some of the distinguished scholars would have a chance as well to fill out the application. Distinguished is probably 1400-1500 test score range, and that would still correlate with the median 1500 SAT invited to interview for President’s per their website.

My OOS son was deferred in the EA round. Is there any information out there about how many students eventually get admitted by SMU after an EA deferral or in the RD round in general?

Daughter got in and $25k/year. Happy for her and all her hard work. 4.2W and 1510 SAT. Cox applicant.

Would like to know the chance of getting merit in RD as well? Deciding whether to continue the application or not.
