snowboarding?

i am currently a high school senior hoping to attend uc santa cruz in the fall and was wondering if it would be practical to bring my snowboard (i would like to go snowboarding as much as possible). i live in the LA area so going home to get it wouldn't make much sense.

anyways, does anyone have experience with keeping gear at school that could help me out?

i was ridiculously unclear here… what i meant to ask was if anyone has experience with keeping their snow (or ski) gear at school and how they go about doing that. Also, is theft an issue?

There’s not any areas in a reasonable distance to make use of your equipment on your own if you don’t have a car (and as a frosh, you wouldn’t). However, there are sometimes an outing or two through OPERS to the snow in the winter months.

Depending on how much you’re bringing, you might have room if you store it under your bed (most of the beds I’ve seen on campus are lofted or able to be lofted). I’ve stored my bike under my bed before because I dislike leaving it outside. My bike is also only a 15" comfort bike and I remove the front wheel when I’ve done this so that probably helps ;). Under the bed keeps it out of the way especially if you have a roommate.

As for theft, I have no idea. I have a single and my door is always shut if I’m not in it. There were some thefts in my building, but this happened because people left their room doors open and unattended. If I had a roommate, I would wait until I knew what kind of person s/he was (are they someone who will leave the door open and the room unattended?) until I brought anything too valuable into the room.
