So, combining scores: old/new???

Ok, so, here is the deal:

Old Sat
800 Math
710 Verbal

New Sat
800 CR
720 Math
770 Writing

So, will colleges combine old Math scores with new scores? So, basically, can I actually look like a 800,800,770???

For all of you out there who are thinking you will never get the scores you need to get yo your dream college, think again. In 10th grade, I got 1200s on my practice tests. Look where I am now.

all except princeton

hmm. but they will take the 800 M in consideration, you know, at least they will see it..

true, but they don't do it like other schools do

TM2000....That is wonderful you should be out celebrating......did you do any one particular thing that you felt helped improve your score

Well, I don't know, here is "TM2000 Method :)"

Well, 9th grade summer I took a pratice SAT PR was giving at a library. I scored a 1260 (which I was happy with, because I never thought I would be a good test taker). After that, I bought Barrons book, which came with like 250 vocab cards and just started studying. I know Xiggi looks down upon that, but hey, I've known every vocab word on every SAT I have taken (actually I didnt know what supine meant on the last one, but by p.o.elimination, I figured it out). I learned all 250 by fall/winter. During that period I started taking a lot of Reading section tests. I might have taken 1 or 2 whole ones, but I knew Reading was my weakest, and has always been. So I just did a bunch of reading sections. I still sucked through out all of that, scoring 600s all the time on Reading. Eventually I got better. I studied more vocab, and my score rose. Soon I would only be missing 0 to four per section (which isn't bad at all, especially on the old SAT cuz the curve is harder now-but the section may be easier). However my PSAT sophmore score was again a 600 haha. Well, I didn't let me get my hopes down. Satisfied with my largely improved CR scores, I focused on vocab during the summer. I learned more words in the Barrons, and I had Perfect 1600 by Kaplan and the PR book for other crap (I didnt use it muc h though haha). I was eager for Vocab. This was important: you need to have a drive and you need to be motivated. I was and I wanted to learn. I knew A LOT of vocab by the end of the summer.

Here is what I thought was the most important thing of all: my 11 grade classes. I finally had AP classes that forced me to read... A LOT (which I hadn't before). A big problem I had was I was A SLOW Reader. My AP Reading helped speed a lot. I had become a better reader. I actually got a local book written by a teacher in my area and I continued studying vocab from there (it had a good list of 250, harder than Barrons, so it really tuned my knowledge).

I had always been good in math, so I didn't worry about it. My preparation and experience in Al2 Precalc and Calc was mroe than enough. So after all that studying, mainly in VOCAB and my reading in my AP Classes (like US History of Language Arts), I took a few last practice tests in the 10 Real SATS (which I am sure you can still use for sentence completion and reading passafes, if you are desperate for more after you get throught the Blue Book). I was scoring 700-740 in my Reading sections. I was elated. I hadn't really practiced much math, but I had some experience in it, and iwas scoring 750+. I couldn't believe this!!! I might actually break 1400! My dream of Wharton was not killed!

HERE IS ONE REALLY IMPORTANT THING: Confidence. Confidence is the mot important thing of all. You need to go into the test feeling like you WILL do well and you have to WANT to take the test, cuz u know you will kick ass. This is how I felt, and I think this experience and confidence factor is the most important. So BAM, I got an 800M (which I never got on a practice test) and a 710V. HOLY ****, I though!. This was Jan 2005.

After that, I didnt practice for SAT1, but focused on SAT2s, no practice for the reg test.

Then May 2005 comes, APs are done and I have finished my SAT2s. Time to cram for the New SAT!! I bought the Blue Book and was unpleasantly surprised. The scales were much harder!!! There was know room for dumb mistakes on Math (and I think I fell victim to this on the real one, but hey, I had an 800 and a 720 is still great!) My CR wasn't really improved, and my writing, whatever ( I took the writing sat2 and got a 750. My essay writing skills were tuned from AP English). I was kind of upset, my scores were not nearly as good as before. However the night before, I took the practice test from collegeboard.com and got: 790CR 780W and 710M. My CR score!!!!! Here again was my confidence booster! THIS was the most important. Test day, I kicked ass.

SO there is my story. Good luck to all. And remember, you don't need 800s. I am happy with mine, but they probably wont make any difference at all in college admissions. I know people with perfect scores and they havent gotten into their dream college. SO have fun and remember this isnt the end of the world!
