I've heard something regarding the New SAT / Old SAT twice in the past two days.

I've heard that "You can still take the Old SAT. (The university) will simply take your highest scores (from either the Old SAT or the New SAT).

That doesn't make any sense to me, especially for sophomores like me. Why would a university mix and match essentially incompatible scores to create a total score?

By that, I mean you could make a 740 on the new verbal part and an 800 on the old math part, get a 720 on the writing, and still make a 2260.

Can someone either confirm or debunk the "mix and match" statement?

Its is not a mix and match, its one test or the other as far as I know, but they prefer the new one....

I doubt that you'll be able to mix and match in between the new and old SATs.

There are more changes than just the addition of the writing section, ie Algebra II on the Math section and the elimination of analogies on the Verbal section.

However, it might not even be required for us to have to take the new SAT if you've taken the old one and scored satisfactory. For example, on Harvard's website, they state that they have not yet decided whether they are going to make students take the new SAT for our year.

For sophomores I am almost positive your only choice will be the new SAT. Scores from the old one will not be considered.

it really depends on the college. take columbia for example, theyll take the old SAT forever... refer to their site

Yep, it's all based on the college.

The public universities here in Oklahoma are not going to require either the New SAT or the ACT w/Writing. (most likely the ACT, not many here take the SAT)

Repeating what I have posted before ad nauseum, FOR THE CLASS OF 06, many LACs will accept the highest section score from the old SAT, new SAT, SAT2 Writing for a composite. Yes, the tests are not really comparable, but these colleges are allowing a "transition period" for this class. But please note that this is not the case with most public universities - they will only accept the new SAT for the class of 06 and forward.

If you are interested in a particular college, do your research - check their website or contact them to find out what they will/will not accept.
