My "official" counselor and I aren't that close. She knows I'm decently smart and involved in school, but other than that she doesn't know enough about me to write a good letter. I'm a lot closer to my Associate Principal or whatever he is (not a technically a counselor but whatever) and I know his rec letter would be much more in depth and sparkly than my counselor's. Will the colleges I'm applying to not accept this?

Well, it doesn’t specify which counselor, but I would put the Counselor you meet with for setting up your classes and in general calls you down for the myriad of requirements and such. If that is the counselor you described then yes put that counselor down :(. You can get an additional rec from your Associate Principal though!
