kutibah, i'm on floor 4 =)

mme-lin, that is true actually, most people i've come across are pre-med or business, but i've encountered a lot of social science too. A LOT of people are pre-med though, haha.

yahoooo, i don't know, i went to bed at 1 am =P

okay SECOND DAY STUFF (day hasn't ended completely though)

breakfast was served from 7-9 am this morning at covel. people who are taking french and german placement tests had to take them at 8 am.

okay so throughout this whole day we had a lot of workshops available. first thing we had was "majors, minors, and other programs" that were held three times, 9-10, 9-9:30, and 9:30-10. as you can see these times overlap and there are 10+ workshops to choose from, and you choose depending on your major/what you're interested in. they give you a list for that.

there are some research opportunities workshops from 10 -- i didnt go to this one cuz there was no time.

at 11 we had to meet with our orientation counselors in their dorm room (floors 8 or 9 in RT), and the OCs talk about the registration for classes format and ursa website details, etc. we also signed up to meet with them AGAIN later on in the day to talk about what we chose; you sign up with your own OC on a time sheet, and meet with them at the time you signed up. you sign up TWICE, first time somewhere from 1 pm to 6 pm, to meet with your OC in covel, and the second time, from 7 pm - 11 pm, to meet with him/her in their dorm room.

12 to 1 was lunch at covel. the computer lab in covel is open from 1-6 and open in rieber hall from 6 to 11.

from 2 until 5 there are 10+ workshops ranging from time management, choosing a major tips (i went to this one, very helpful), financial aid resource center, aap presentations, money responsibility, sports, residence halls tips, college honors, etc. choose which ones you want to go to, theyre at different places at different times and they DO overlap so you'll only be able to go to two or three, just like i did.

throughout this time, you will not only have to have fit in/decide the workshops to go to, but also go to the first OC meeting held in covel that you signed up for earlier (1 pm - 6 pm) when you meet at 11.

dinner is from 5 to 7 at covel.

after that you go to your second meeting with your OC, depending on the time you signed up for (7 pm - 11 pm)

then some more presentations you choose to go to from 6 -7 at sproul.
there is also a study list room available for people who can't get access to a computer and look up available classes -- this room has ALL the classes posted on paper all around the room. its open from 1:30 to 6:30 in covel commons 3rd floor, and then moves to the fireside lounge in rieber hall from 6:30 - 11. (i guess its so you'll be closer to the computer lab, because the computer lab changes from covel to rieber as well)

ratatoille is playing right now, it started at 9 pm in the rieber terrace multipurpose room.

at 11:30 is CARPE NOCTEM, it's some sort of scavenger hunt i think, haven't gone to it yet, and each member of the winning team receives a free ucla sweatshirt. i will post how that goes when i come back =)

btw, some info on placement tests:
the math placement test was SO EASY. there was like ONE thing from calculus lol seriously. it's all algebra, geometry, and some math analysis. if you know basic pre calc youll be fine. i didnt study for ONE SECOND cuz i forgot i had to take it lol, i found out that same day i had to take it. you need i think 16 out of 60 questions right to place into math 1, and 36 out of 60 to place into math 3a/31a. i EASILY placed into 3a/31a, haha.

when i found out i had to take it i was sooo worried but seriously, dont be worried AT ALL. i had a calculator with me by chance, but you dont really need that either lol. its basic math

FOR SPANISH PLACEMENT TEST: i needed a spanish placement test, but my counselor told me that if we want to do spanish as a language and didnt test out of it with AP credit, then they will take care of it during the fall. she said they aren't going to do a placement test for spanish if someone wants to TEST OUT OF IT TO BE EXEMPT FROM THE LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT, but they said said instead they're gunna ask us how many years we took spanish, any gap years, and based on the knowledge you know/still remember where you should be placed. its a self-assessment thing, but that can STILL CHANGE...
