how about changing majors? when is there time to do that? i wanna go from the physical sciences department to the life sciences.

I wanna know about this as well. Were any of you able to change your major? I want to switch from engineering to pre-bizecon, is that possible even if I'm at 110 orientation?

It doesn't matter that you officially switch. If you want to go to physical sciences to life sciences, you can start signing up for the pre-requisite courses for your choice of a physical science major - e.g. Math 31A and Chemistry 20A. As for engineers switching to Pre-Bizecon, start taking Math 31A and Econ 1 or 2 and just look at the lower-division requirements. You can change your major once you get here. Right now, it's not the most important thing unless you're signing up for courses that are major-specific (a few engineering seminars, I believe).

i second what em said, with validation. i entered with a biochem major, but just took the chem 14 series and math 3 series as i pleased. i didn't officially switch into the prepsychobio major until last week, and even then, i signed up for a WS minor, and right now, i'm leaning towards just switching my major to WS.

Thank you Jeyday_Lovely for taking the time to post all of this! I feel A LOT more excited about orientation now (my high school orientation was just horrible)! I have 1 question: were the OC's very helpful when scheduling classes? (Cause I already have a list of questions, though I'm trying my best to limit them...)

Yes, my OC seemed very knowledgeable and helped me out a lot. So your OC will probably be the same.

Validation here for switching majors. I was computer science, but I switched to psychobiology with the help of my OC. He was engineering, so he wasn't too knowledgeable about bio courses, but he helped me sign up for my beginning stuff like Math 3A and Chem 14A.

woah jinobi was comp sci?

coool :D

my OC was the best. when we met up for appointments to choose classes, she ALWAYS asked if i had ANY concerns, academic or non-academic. she assured us to ask anything we were confused about at anytime. she even gave her phone number and email (and facebook!) so we could keep in touch. she told us like a million times to contact her if we needed ANYTHING over the summer. her name was janet salgado so if you have her she's awesome. she has a twin sister too jessica salgado. but ALL of the orientation staff is awesome... very helpful, enthusiastic, it's because of them mostly that orientation was awesome! but be assured that no matter who you get, you will get the best advice, guidance, support, and FUN!

DIDDY RIESE = <3!

Thank you! I guess I'll see you around once school starts! :)

if anyone has any other questions about orientation, or stuff that happens during orientation, needs clarification, etc. just post here and i'll answer if i can!

...even though i think i covered almost everything ;)

Which day do they take the small group photo for the website? I need to plan my outfit! :p

The third day during your campus tour :P

You guys are soo cute... in that na

what kind of gifts did you receive? :D

A planner and a poster :P (among other paper and pen(s) they give you during Orientation)

thanks kutibah

haha

Hey thank you for the information. Can you tell me what are the things I need to bring to orientation, it says to bring "All official records you have received from UCLA, including this confirmation" what official records do I take? Anything else I should take?

if they received transcripts/AP scores and stuff, you don't need to take anything with you. my.ucla should have that info. you can take it with you if you want. i took a copy of my unofficial transcript, my last report card (since my transcript didn't have my second semester senior grades) and the copy of SAT/AP scores from collegeboard. no one from my group had it and it wasn't a problem, but they said its okay cuz they only use it to plan your classes. for example if you show them you got a B average for both years in government on your transcript, you don't have to take a class to fulfill that requirement, and your OC knows that. but it doesn't actually fulfill that requirement on your RECORDS until they officially receive your transcript showing that. so yeah it's just so your OC knows where you stand in term of grades/scores so you can plan out your classes. if you have anything take it with you just in case, but don't worry about it if you don't have it already. if everything is on time then they should have everything already.
