Honestly, I just need a dorm. I started my housing application on October 8, 2016. I never realized I wouldn’t get a housing contract until I accepted the admission to UT/A&M ( I didn’t know which to pick…) Anyway, I got screwed at A&M because I didn’t do the housing at all because I forgot to apply, but I emailed the people at UT and I am probably in the top of the queue, hopefully, and I’ll maybe get one when they do the second round on April 1st. My only question is that is it typical for there to be a second round, or do they all fill up? I was skeptical when the person I emailed at the school said “Usually” so I am not really sure if I should abandon the prospect of dorms and just look for off campus apartments.
“Usually they don’t fill up” **
You will be fine. You will get a contract. I know transfer students that got accepted in June and were still offered on campus housing. Also, you do not need to select your 5 dorm choices until a summer deadline.
Ok thank you. Im a bit of a nervous wreck and I’ve already been ripped apart by my parents because of this. Fingers crossed for something cheap.
I think “cheap” is usual more available than the costly singles with bath, and doubles/shared with baths. Your Oct 8th housing application was smart of you. Congrats, take a breath, you’re a Longhorn now.
It is a confusing process! Here is the flow chart with most everything you need to know: http://housing.utexas.edu/sites/default/files/process_howto2016.pdf
Note if you are looking for the least expensive options, choose community bath options and don’t choose San Jac or Duren.
My daughter had a 10/16 date last year and got her first choice dorm with a shared bath. You should be fine.
